What is a name

The more I hear about what type of person my great-grandma was, the more I wonder why I was named after her. She sounds very unpleasant.

Not much

Really, just a label.
Like "chair" or "book". Not unique. More of a convenience and convention.
A Wendy need not have red hair and a love of fast food, for example.
Though humans assume personality because of how names sound (soft versus hard consonants, etcetera). So the prejudgement is there, but not based on your ancestress. Whom nobody living remembers very well, anyway.

My mom said I should change my name because of my namesake ancestor. His untimely and agonizing death from cancer is a bad omen, apparently.
But I'm difficult and unreasonable. And I've been unreasonably lucky (at least, I think so), in my relationships and also in life. Should be dead many times over, actually. And my name means "fighter", or "blessed", depending on the language chosen. The label is accurate, it seems.

The cult of ego or identity, is much of what is wrong with our world today. If more humans saw themselves as *a part of* the universal context, rather than *apart from* that context, ours would be a kinder society and a better world.
See. Difficult and unreasonable.

Since you didn't know her

You have to see her through the eyes of other people. That won't necessarily be accurate, so no worries about this issue. She may have lived with extenuating circumstances, or someone held a grudge and muddied her name, who knows. Maybe she even did excellent things that no one mentions now. And of course, she isn't here to defend herself. Enjoy your heritage name.

Pleasant enough to have a child who was pleasant enough to have you it would seem.

Change your name. Choose something suited to yourself. Go to a numerologist and get help.
