Why can't I pull the trigger?

I confess... I'm thinking about buying an expensive sports car, but I can't pull the trigger. I'm now in my mid 50`s. I worked pretty hard at a physical job my whole life and over the years I've managed to pursue my passion, and have owned many nice sports cars. Currently I'm driving a high end Porsche convertible. And its awesome. But the other day, I drove a Ferrari convertible for the first time, and I fell in love. But the thing is, it would cost me around $80,000 to upgrade. I'm not sure why this is, but I feel kind of guilty, and kind of irresponsible about wanting to upgrade this time. I never had that feeling before, and I guess its because of the new unchartered price level. I have the cash on hand, and the house is paid (that's what happens when you decide not to have kids) and I'm still working full-time making good money. My wife has no problem with it. So how come I haven't pulled the trigger yet? Have I finally reached an age where I'm thinking I should be more responsible about retirement savings? But I'm still going to be working for quite a number of years yet making good money... Or have I just reached a certain price point where I feel it getting obscene? I'm not a flashy guy by any means. I wear very regular clothes. No designer labels or anything like that. But I'm a car nut, and Ferrari and Lamborghini posters adorned the wall of my childhood room Should I just tell myself, you only live once and go for it? What's holding me back? Maybe I feel the car is going to be too flashy for me? I wonder what my neighbours are going to think of me? Is it guilt? I find that writing my thoughts down helps me figure things out. And who knows, maybe an insightful comment or two will also help...

Don't be a douchbag, Vancouver has far too many. Show some dignity and self-respect and don't do it.

I thought I’d be okay financially because I was in my mid fifties earning good money. Then I suddenly became disabled and unable to work. I’m now in my sixties and I have zero retirement savings, no income, and I lost my home. You never know what the future holds, so don’t risk money that you can’t afford to lose. Why not just rent one of those types of cars when you feel the need? Btw, on a personal level, I think those cars are completely ridiculous unless you’re actually on a racetrack. I love sports cars too, but those over-the-top flashy ones to me scream trashy. I’m a woman and guys driving those seem a bit pathetic. Just my personal opinion.

What a problem to have.

Your 'confession' is a little tone deaf considering most readers are living paycheque to paycheque. I have no sympathy for your 'problem'.

Normally I'd say someone your age is a fool to want to even be seen in such a contraption but since you're nutty about cars you might as well do it.

If your house is paid for and your retirement sorted, no debt. Buy the damn car if it makes you happy. Or, go take out one of those track memberships and you can get your fix of driving beautiful cars without the depreciation.

Maybe it's your intuition

Some are predicting a recession to hit in the next year or so.
Anyhow, trust your gut.

I wonder if it's an unacknowledged value of yours that is surfacing. Albeit already there have been repeated mentions of appearing under the radar, nothing flashy, nothing showy, what would other people think... Unless it's not an unspoken value that's holding you at bay but rather a fear? Fear of being seen? Being the center of attention? I really can't say. Only you can. Pursuing ownership of this new vehicle does honor an aspect of you as a child that was in awe of such impressive things with posters on your wall. How do You feel about it? What does it mean to You?

Pulling the Trigger

Hmm... Does owning this vehicle represent the epitome of your life aspirations as a child? And once that is obtained, there may be nothing left to achieve? To own it or to deny it. Either pulls the trigger on the dream. How to keep it alive then. Or how to have a new dream.
