Enjoying retirement

The last time I had a beer was in August and it made me realize that it just ain’t my thing anymore. I’ve been sober for almost six months now and enjoying my retirement from that whole partying and drinking lifestyle. No more waking up hungover in the morning. No more beer belly sagging over my belt. No more emptying my pockets. My body and mind feel a lot more clear now. There’s nothing left to say but so long.

Feel the need to go all... or nothing?
There's nothing wrong with a glass of wine at dinner, and a couple beers/drinks over the weekend.

Good going

I could've written this post, had the same thing happen to me when I retired.
I realized that a lot of my excessive drinking was an "escape" from the drudgery of my job and the horrific co-workers, retirement gave me a complete sense of freedom and my desire to self medicate disappeared.
Enjoy your retirement, I sure am!!

For some of us, it's not about the booze, it's about the relationship with booze. Finalizing the divorce feels like the right thing to do.

Funny thing last night

I was washing some dishes reflecting on a day of chores that I was just completing. Out of nowhere came the thought/urge to have a glass of wine. I glanced the clock, its was 4:58pm. I thought "wow, it's like my body cells just sent my brain that message."

I had been having regular drinks and get-togethers over Christmas/New Year's, then an all-inclusive trip to Mexico, so I haven't drank in a week now and didn't have anything in the house. It made me see that my routine had become a glass of wine around 5:00pm and then there'd be the second one around 6:30-7. It always seemed to work out to 1/2 a bottle or more pretty easily. I could just see that habit clearly. I've never had a "problem" with alcohol (although some family members do) and I really don't care if/what others drink either. For me, I'm going to reduce it to occasional social settings after work. That has worked for me in the past and I didn't miss the nightly glass(s).
