Inching up

I’m creeping up to the same age where my dad was let go from his job and never worked again. My male friends have reached this age, reaching the same fate as my dad: let go and not to get hired again in years. I get anxiety over ageism at work. I do my job well and execute my projects well. But I can’t shake the feeling that once past X age, they want to put you out to pasture.

That's the benefits of having "male privilege" and benefiting from "the patriarchy" for you, according to many.

We have some guys PAST retirement age.. Boss says they cost a fortune in vacation time. Otherwise they are the most respected workers we have. All us young bucks look up to them.
If your company ever ever lets you go for age related issues you fuckin take em to court and have a damn good lawyer.
Some guys get down on the ground to do some physical labour and no shit some cant get up without help from 2 people. We keep them. They make our world go round with the love of great music classic jokrs and knowing thatll be us one year 60 fukn years old still kickin it.

Same except different

I’m a woman who wound up disabled in my fifties. People tell me that I’m just not trying hard enough. I should have a job. Sure thing. I can support myself as a Walmart greeter, right? No problem. With my arthritic body and my several other medical problems, standing up in one place for hours for minimum wage should be a piece of cake. Ageism is worse than ever before, and if you add disability into it, you’re sool!
