Bad Respiratory Hygiene

Given the spread of coronavirus and widely available information from health authorities on hygiene practices, I don't understand how people can still cough and sneeze into their hands, instead of into a tissue or their elbow. It's just proper hygiene to begin with, along with hand washing and staying at home when ill. It makes me think that they're just a bunch of inconsiderate assholes.

It can also be cultural. We have folks from many different countries living in Canada - not everyone has the same background or education when it comes to hygiene practices. What's perfectly acceptable in many countries isn't always practised here so there's a disconnect. Also, this coughing into the elbow thing is a fairly recent practice - a really good idea, though! And, yes, some people are just dumb assholes who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves - like anti-vaxxers, they don't realize that they're hurting themselves and the people they care about, too, when they engage in such careless and selfish behaviour. Education and consistency is the key!

I’m sure

“staying at home when ill” said by every pompous asshole ever who apparently doesn’t need to work.

Next time you are on public transportation, watch how many people touch their faces, then touch a seat or rail, then touch their faces. And those are people who appear healthy. And maybe educate yourself, because with a lot of viruses, you can be at your most contagious for several days before you experience any symptoms. The sneezers are coughers are one thing, and the quiet “healthy” ones are something even more terrifying.

I agree.

I've been semi-quarantined for a week already. I go out, I just don't sit around large groups of people. I've been paying close attention to the Coronavirus. While it's not deadly for most, the infection rates are way higher than SARS and It was pretty obvious this thing was going international early on. I just don't need the drama of having a Coronavirus. It's just like the flu for the majority of us but who needs it? I can't wait until spring. It feels like the winters never end in this part of the world.

Sharing is caring, heh

You're not getting away from the bugs, mate. They're everywhere.
Until you see brass or bronze on most surfaces, and all spaces are subjected to hard UV, and spray ionized disinfectant whenever the humans aren't around, just assume you're surrounded by germs. Your immune system kinda requires that, to work. Thus why shut-ins are often prone to viruses, and outdoorsy types are more vulnerable to bacteria. Heck, every time you wash your hands, you kill millions of microbes, you mass murderer, you...

Now, according to some of the latest actual medical info... As opposed to official, politicized government pronouncements or WHO press offerings, also called "bullsh*t" where I'm from...
Covid-19 may survive on common surfaces for up to 9 days, incubates for up to 24 days, and is transmissible by people without symptoms. Also when aerosolized and through feces, and most people's mobile devices are pretty sh*tty (no pun intended). Or via "close contact", defined as 6 feet away.
Tests for it are not completely reliable. Especially the defective US CDC ones, heh. Some people are even infectious, asymptomatic, and test negative - like a perfect, modern-day Typhoid Mary. First person-to-person transmission was supposedly back in November.
Even the recovered have traces of the stuff in their system at detectable levels. Which may or may not be transmissible - something we won't know for months. Does apparent recovery confer immunity from reinfection? Don't know that, either.
But we know it spares children. And prefers males, older people, smokers, the infirm, the immunocompromised and the afflicted. An ideal demographically selective disease. The next one may be even better.
Live healthy and get good sleep. You'll need it.
