What's Pier 1? I knew it existed but I never knew what it was. Oh well. Goodbye another retail store... more room for condos.

They lasted this long. I've been in them 3 times over the years when you'd think they'd be busy, and was basically deserted.
It was a niche market

I found some ocean animal, cutsie themed melamine dishes there for my summer cabin quite a few years back. I think they were on sale. Not practical for the everyday shopper, but I'll miss the occasional drop in.
what used to be

Pier 1 used to be a hippy-ish cheapo place to get wicker goods, candles, incense and a bunch of other odds & ends. It was popular mostly due to affordability and good purchasing, obviously best prices for bulk buying corporately. Then they devolved into a higher priced home furnishing outlet so similar to others in the market. No wonder they went broke. Too bad for the staff, it's always sad when a chain goes under no matter what the reason.
