It doesn’t take much these days....

....to completely bum me out. I’m doing my best to remain positive in the face of multiple major life crises, but some days I just want to go back to bed and pull the covers over my head! Trying to sell a bunch of stuff to make a few bucks and de-clutter. This woman has been messaging me over and over and set an agreement to come today to pick up the items, after me holding it for her for the entire week. She gets as far as getting my email address for an etransfer, then messages me to say that her husband is suddenly “too sick” to come and I should sell it to someone else. (After I’ve turned away several other buyers with my “pending” notification). In other words they either changed their minds or found something else. What the hell ever happened to integrity? If I guarantee something to someone, I keep my word unless there’s an emergency of some kind. People can be such jerks!

I want to hide under the covers too, but when it comes to selling wares, get a deposit or say you are holding no more that 2 days; or only selling if someone is willing pick it up asap. It's what small retail business owners do, otherwise they would never be able to move their product. For every jerk there is another super kind reliable person out there. Believe me they do exist. And good for you for de-cluttering and making some money; make sure you do something fun with that extra bit of income!

My rule has always been that the first person to transfer the money gets the product. You never turn away other buyers.

I learned this when I was in college. Someone agreed to buy some textbooks from me for a fixed price. When it came down to handing me over the money she tried to haggle me down further. I told her no and just sold it to someone else. I in fact sold one of the books for less but its the principle.
