Spoiled

Back when I first met my SO, someone warned me about this. She said that I'll get used to highly intelligent company, and it will destroy my tolerance for the mass of humanity. Seemed unlikely, as I've been dealing with normies for decades. Well, she was exactly right. Sent my very introverted, burned-out partner off to Whistler for a spa/dinner/elite-hotel birthday overnighter. My treat. Turns out, she packed a couple of my books for light reading - the Tao Te Ching (Mitchell version), and a short work on game theory. Called me that same evening, about how she couldn't put Mitchell down, and will have to reread it a bunch because amazing... Then I had to take a call with a more normal relative. Oy. I mean, I've always been cynical. Childhood and adolescence of disease, brutality and deprivation. Adulthood of stress, trauma, overwork and bad sleep... But this is different. More intensely misanthropic. Definitely, New Level Unlocked.

It's a shame you've learned plenty about intelligence and nothing about wisdom. Perhaps this accounts for the state of a world run by the same type of people.

you should look up the definitions of the words you're trying to use before you post.

Not necessary

It’s not necessary to be pretentious in order to convince people of your intelligence. In fact, I’ve found that it’s frequently the most pretentious ones that are trying too hard, that aren’t as intelligent as they want everyone else to believe.

I vote this the most childish, egotisical, dumb post ever.

It's a good thing you're so smart. Too bad about the emotional issues.

Yuck

This is the most pretentious post I have ever read. What a tool.

Have you seen The Squid and the Whale? It's a Noah Baumbach film, check it out.

Oh, look, all the judgy people piled on... Good to get that over with.
It's a confession forum. A fact that seems to be lost on the majority of you. Yes, you, the responders.

The woman spoiled me. It's just a fact.
And it doesn't take all kinds, but we get them anyway. So I'm wise enough to accept the delusional, mentally lazy mass of humanity that I can't change. Which is how we got not just Putin and Limbaugh and Farage and Berlusconi and Sanders and McConnell, etcetera...but also both Trump and Trudeau, I should remind you.
Neither of which I voted for. But they're all helpfully symptomatic, to allow a valid diagnosis of the majority: ignorovirus and stupidovirus, both endemic to the species.
I confessed that I'm an unapologetic intellectual snob. Not to say that I don't seek (and enjoy) the company of those differently (and perhaps, more optimally) abled, with higher emotional or social intelligence.
I do have much to learn from them, and they're great people.

Also, all the words in the post were used correctly.
Gaslighting doesn't work on me. I had formal, professional training in it, long before that term was even a thing. At great expense to the taxpaying public.

How'd you come up with this classy name?

This is the "Solitude is Bliss" guy, right?

Funny how you got so many positive responses to that post, but now that you show your arrogance in this one, everyone is shooting you down.
Oh well, at least you've got your SO.
