Today...

... my mom told me she'd be better off if I were dead. On the plus side, I found the Georgia Straight book with the covers for half off at book warehouse. I hope the pages are tears-resistant!

What an awful thing

to hear from someone who is supposed to be your big support. Always remember you have value and you are worthy of love and care. I'm sending you love and a big hug. This problem is something in your mom, not you.

Take a break.

I have no idea what your Mom may be going through - or may have gone through - to say such a cruel and hurtful thing to you. I don't want to assume causality either way but it sounds like both of you need a break from each other, like, yesterday, because saying something like that to anyone is abusive. I'll say it again, your Mom was being abusive by saying that to you. Whatever you've done - or haven't done - no one deserves to be abused. By learning how to set healthy boundaries (with the help of a qualified therapist/family counsellor/social worker), maybe you and your Mom can someday find enough common ground to start working towards a healthier relationship but, in the meantime, for your own mental and emotional health, stop talking to her. Don't interact with her. If you live with her, move out ASAP. Disengaging from each other will give you the space that you both apparently need in order to reset and move forward. This will be difficult but you're not alone. Ask for help (but not from her). GOOD LUCK!

I can't imagine my own mother ever saying anything like that to me, and I can't imagine ever, ever saying that to my own child. WTF?? I'd cry too.

Unless you’ve robbed and hurt your mother- perhaps been addicted to Hard drugs, I cannot fathom anything besides mental illness speaking that way
