Maintaining enough food at home...

I’m getting worried about maintaining enough food during ongoing self isolation. We tried ordering food from save on but all delivery spots are sold out. If someone in a household gets sick how is anyone in the household supposed to get food? And yes I know we are supposed to have 2 weeks worth of food but what if you get 2 weeks worth of food and then 1 week later get sick? I appreciate that a lot of improvised options are popping up right now but is there any government advice about this? I am also kind of confused about the mixed messages. If we are supposed to have 2 weeks worth of food then everyone is going to be stockpiling somewhat (especially people with families) but then we are told not to “panic shop” or “stockpile.” And in order to maintain a pantry of 2 weeks worth of food that means either making consistent trips to the grocery store or buying about a month’s worth of food. I understand that it’s still okay to go to grocery stores but what happens if someone in the household gets sick? Also, obviously a lot of people can’t afford to fill their pantries. Anyway, thanks for all the community spirit and support and bravery.

that you do larger shopping trips so that you leave the house minimally. Therefore, instead of going out every other day to get food, do one big trip once a week.
If you're sick, do not leave your home, period. Ask a friend or neighbour if you can to shop for you and leave it outside for you to pick up.

Like everything works if you have social support... but can you imagine if you're single and in the city by yourself? You're practically doomed if you get sick and do not prepare.

In addition, there are situations like your's. The government is sucking at making stuff clear. I had to buy toilet paper today after waiting in line at No Frills for 30 minutes and I felt like such a jerk. They are making it seem taboo to stock-up! This isn't even hoarding. It's my usual purchase amount!

You’ll drive yourself crazy thinking about all those “what if’s”. Just relax, and take it as it comes.

is all booked up for months so not an option. Living on my own with no family in the province, no close friends. What do I do if I get sick? Tried Skip the dishes but also booked and I can't pay for restaurants very often.

You're panicking.
Take a deep breath and remain calm. If you are washing your hands and protecting yourself from the virus by staying home or keeping 6ft away from one another then you will be OK. Deep breaths..

When stuff comes on sale, buy a bunch. Get a freezer and buy meat half price. A big bag of rice, or various beans are cheap.
Get a huge slow cooker, make chilis and stews and freeze portions.
etc etc
I have enough to last for months, and that's a normal thing for me.

Try to live in the moment

Don’t think about what ifs because you are making yourself crazy. Practice good hygiene and Social Distancing and that’s all you can do -the rest is whatever will be will be ...you and I and all of us are in the same boat and by remaining calm we will all get through this together.
When I feel overwhelmed I like to focus on how I KNOW that brilliant minds all around the world are working day and night to find a cure / vaccine. We are going to get through this.

Buy a freezer? Get a huge crock pot? I’m guessing you aren’t renting in a 600/500/400 sq ft apartment in a city. How do I keep that big bag of rice/flour from getting bugs in my tiny apartment, especially now that the weather is getting warmer … Potatoes (or anything!) don’t keep for very long in an extremely unpleasantly hot south-facing home. Such “easy solutions” (that’s sarcasm, and I’m rolling my eyes, you smug bastard).

I do live in a 600 sq ft apartment and guess what? I had my freezer when I lived in a 500 ft apartment.
If you don't have the sense to look up basic food storage techniques online, nor see that not all freezers are 6 feet long, nor realize you don't need to store potatoes- you'll never do it anyways.

Why bother replying in a snide manner?
