Covid 1984

Ever read 1984? You people asking for lockdown and rejoicing in the snitching of neighbours and consider opinions that don't line up with govt orthodoxy as 'subversive' and dangerous fail to see you are becoming the authoritarian state. The govt is accountable for the people not the other way round. Remember what our grandparents fought for or we are doomed.

Unbelievable

You want freedom to spread a disease that no one is immune to and could kill off most of the country?

it seems

we are doomed, man. you're totally right though.

The Parallell to 1984 is Valid, but...

You've gotten it wrong. The lockdown is based on fact, reason, and values. (deaths vs. economic damages) Where the comparison to 1984 is really valid is the section on Newspeak and Doublespeak. If Trump wasn't such a moron, I would swear he had studied the book.

Uhm?

You do know this is highly contagious? This is the difference.

I think the people who survived rationing and travel restrictions for 5 years during WW2 would laugh at this generation who complain after 1 month of restrictions.

You may have had a point

or rather you do have a point that we need to guard our liberties, but there is a global pandemic on, and people flouting the directions are prolonging it , and making it even worse for the most vulnerable in our society. So in that regard, your reference to 1984 makes absolutely no sense at all. Go read it again.

Clueless

You go out you get sick...stay in not sick...your decision Sherlock.

Choices

My body, my choice. Isn't that why we're suffering from the opioid crisis? A running theme in '1984' was that everyone was miserable and unhappy. Are we there yet?

You’re not getting it. If you are out there and possibly infected, you’re also spreading it to others! So, in effect, you’ve decided to make your choice become theirs. Not cool.
