A lady in the supermarket yesterday
posted May 5th, 2020 at 10:41 AM
started putting her groceries on the conveyor belt right behind mine and just had no clue about social distancing.
The cashier and I just looked at each other before telling her to knock it off.
Is this stupidity, ignorance, just plain asshole behavior??
I mean, what in the actual fuck is it?

As usual peeps are in their own heads, unaware of their surroundings and totally oblivious... either that or they can’t count out six feet or don’t care. If you give them a gentle reminder and they bite back, well they just don’t give a shit.
WEAR A MASK

Which is why it's appalling that people aren't being told to wear masks.
Ugh

Give Everyone Extra Grace.
All you needed to do was gently ask her to step back a step until you finished.
Assume she's at least as stressed and overwhelmed as you are. She forgot for a second or had heavy stuff or was confused about what to do - just ease off the judgement and while you're at it, probably ease off on yourself too. We're all doing our best.
just another idiot reading your lame "confession"

Sure, it could be one of the above comments about selfishness/thoughtlessness. Or, maybe, she is completely stressed out, thinking about a dying relative in another city/province/country, or trying to figure out how to make her grocery dollars stretch because she's been laid off, or her partner has, or they both have, or her kids are having a rough time, or she's suicidal, or her partner is, or her parent is, or her kid is, or her friend is .... maybe just mind your business and take care of yourself without screeching judgement at others who are just not as great as you clearly are at being a Very Good Citizen.

I'm not saying this is the case in your situation, but there's a cultural element in Vancouver due to the amount of immigration.
I spent a decade in Asia. In Korea most people will literally try to force their body through your own in the supermarket checkout. It took me awhile to adjust to living there. When Koreans move to Canada they experience similar I think.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
