Birdie made me cry

I see that I’m extra sensitive these days. A bird just suicide flew into my window on the 12th floor. I fuckin cried because he was so beautiful with his little yellow belly and just lay dead on my balcony :( I didn’t know what to do so my bf has to bag him up and I gave him his burial.

It happens too often

I'm sorry for you and the bird. The problem for the bird is that they see a reflection of the sky in your window, and your window appears to them as an open space that they can fly through. They hit the window and end up injured or dead. You can help reduce these occurrences by placing window hangings, curtains, or other visible obstructions that will alert the bird to the danger. My friend who cleans windows on high rises told me that he sees feathers stuck to windows far too often. It's not your fault, but we can all make a difference with small steps towards a healthier environment.

Glass reflections are deadly for birds. They see sky, or trees reflected, and fly into them! Please apply window decals, or use window hangings to help birds navigate around glass in high rises. Also, sometimes they are stunned and will recover if you warm them in your hands. and let them recover. Take them in a box to a safe place. you can help! don't give up. Check out FLAP. an organization online they have tips to help discourage birds from doing this. It's not suicide, they are confused by glass.

Bless you. And please people. Put stickers on windows so our little birdie relatives can see and protect themselves.

Another trick is...

Highlighter markers. Make a grid of lines on the inside of the window. You can’t really see it, but it’s very visible to the birds.

You can give them the gift of life too, by blowing gently into their mouths and helping them recover from the trauma. I hope you don't need to try, but if it happens, why not?

Birds Life

Sometimes they're not dead after falling - like @love birds said, you can try to revive them. But what they need is WARMTH. Hold gently in your warm hands and "hahhh" warm air all over their head and body for a few minutes. I've seen someone do this and the bird revived and flew away like it was nothing. I think sometimes they're just stunned, not dead...even from great heights.

good reason not to live in a place where you have to take an elevator to get to your front door.

sometimes the birds just knock themselves out on the glass, eventually recover, and then fly away. I've seen it happen.
