Br Smart

Interesting that a population finally getting the hang of life with a virus is now cycling without helmets? Maybe they don’t have much brain to lose but you would think people would be a bit more careful.

Seriously?

their already overwhelmed with the pandemic that they completely forgot, a mask & helmet covers up the gray and everything else let alone fog up your glasses too. Next you’ll be complaining they can’t read people’s minds or their check their Covid Tracker App for hostiles nearby. Or maybe they just don’t care. Be kinder next time?

UBC and an insurance company looked at the stats going back 20 years and came up with the same results: there has been no drop in head injury rates after they enacted mandatory helmets.
IIRC only 10% of bike injuries involved the head and few of them were serious, 70% wrist and shoulders and miscellaneous injuries.
Sure,wear a helmet put don't get in a panic.

Lots of smart people cycle without Helmets---if a car smacks you at speed, that little thing isn't going to do much for your head, maybe if you had some sort of motorcycle helmet on.

It's a personal choice. Most places in the world do not have helmet laws, which are an index for totalitarianism---Government treating you like dolly it gets to tell how to dress.

My family and I ride bicycles. Always with helmets. A recent related experience was when we were out for a short ride. We passed a guy riding a bicycle who was wearing a mask but no helmet. :-)

as to what one perceives as most likely to kill you and common sense which most people lack like wisdom or past experience. I see bike couriers all the time that wear both helmet and mask to stay safe & reduce breathing in exhaust fumes or maybe they rather not wear all that in case they’re discovered as Vancouver’s next movie star while riding their bike down along the seawall. Their choice but please refrain from complaining when you need to be spoon fed and have your diaper changed after falling off your bicycle while taking yet another selfie.

It's interesting how people pick their poison. 5% of people who get this virus will die, yet 33% of ALL people are going to get heart disease which is even more avoidable than COVID. In BC, the leading causes of preventable death are unintentional poisonings, suicide and falls. All avoidable if we are careful and/or smart.
