going nowhere

I always feel kind of sad when people move out of my building, and I am still here. My building is fine, it's just I feel left behind when others are moving on to houses or presumably some sort of improved living situation. I mean, can you imagine living in a house! I'd be in paradise! I am working towards improving my lot but it is slow going and covid has crushed my income. Sometimes I feel like I will die in this random grey apartment building, and never know what it is like to truly have a home.

Right with you OP
Been living in a 600 sq. ft box for 13 years and many good peeps been leaving the bldg for better accommodations over the past 5 years.
I've made a lot of poor choices in adult life so I'm kinda lucky to have my 2nd floor box still. But still, I would die for a little house with my own walls and my rules only.

And away from this place,if you want to own an actual house.
Small town BC, maybe the Gulf Islands or Northern Vancouver Island.
Assuming you want to stay in Canada, if not you can buy 5/10/20 rural acres in the Western US for $10- 20k+.

I had the chance to but didn't over stigma.
Stuck. Surround sound constant noise...
Stuck.
Only thing I've ever regretted.

Some people are never satisfied and move around a lot. Others are maybe in a bad financial situation and can't pay their rent. Perhaps they have an ill family member that needs full time care. Don't always assume people are doing better than you because they don't stay in one place long term. At least you know you are consistent and reliable! You never truly know what's going on in people's lives.

Go do something interesting with your life instead of thinking about others are doing. There's a world out there. Go see it. You will grow exponentially. Other's will see you leading a full life and envy you while they're collecting shit and paying a mortgage. Do you think those people are growing with all those financial restraints? They're slaves.

For me, housing is a place to keep my stuff, cook, and sleep. I can well afford a more expensive apartment, but don't consider it worth the extra expense. Can afford a condo too, but wouldn't want to be tied down by debt. Money in the bank can cover the rent for twenty years. Be happy with what you have. People who are always "moving up" are never happy where they are, which is the only place they ever are.

Have made me fantasize about living in an actual house all the time. OP I think the same thing almost every day.

I dunno, sometimes people move because they can't afford rent and they found something cheaper farther out.
