Maybe it's because of YouTube

But I watch these videos & yes I've been on a train only once in my 60 years (the Royal Hudson in the early 1980's in guessing) on trainhopping (yes I understand it's dangerous & illegal) & wish I had the guts to do it, to be free & do what I want but at 60 it won't happen, at least I can dream & watch the videos

... who would hop grain trains, so he said. Interesting guy. I mean, the fact is the railroads should have fares like public buses, the Government made them possible. They should not be profit-making, except where cargo is concerning, passenger trains should be a public resource.

In my 60+ years I've found dreaming is actually better than most real things

I rode atop of trains in India, and atop of the chicken buses in Central America where it's totally normal. Here it's this dangerous and illegal thing, in those countries — commuting.

But remember riding the Royal Htdson as a young child up to Squamish. Little did I know the brightest star of my life would be up there eventually.

A friend I did after high school was ride a train to Calgary. First day we made it to Salmon Arm,and camped out. Next day to Calgary.
Going through the Fraser Canyon, Shuswap, Monashees/Revelstoke, Roger's Pass, Rockies and the tunnels was incredible.
Sitting in the low bed cars up against huge crates,no one could see in but we could see up and out to all the scenery

Expect to be beaten with a cudgel and jailed if caught hoboing on the rails. Read some hobo memoirs and ask yourself if you really want to live that way.
