I could never take on a job in customer service. It is very exhausting to be nice to stupid people, especially ones who treat you like dirt. All for minimum wage? No thanks. I'm much better off working in a warehouse.

It’s taken my entire long life to realize that I’m definitely not cut out for any position where tolerating “the public” is a daily requirement. Some people are just total idiots or total jerks, or both. The stress of constantly having to tolerate abuse isn’t worth the money.
If it is exhausting...

... you're just a jerk. Being nice shouldn't take any energy, it should be a rest-state. Also, I've worked customer service, people are respectful. You get what you give.
Almost correct

You're better off working for yourself, instead of enriching others.

I suggest you work in Cannabis operations for the LDB. You get good benefits, rotating 24hr shift schedules and knowing that you’re helping people get their overpriced weed. Bonus, no talking!

It's crazy how some customers feel like they have the absolute rights to get what they want, say what they want. It's definitely not easy being trampled on by the most diffcult people. Since quitting customer service I have much respect for those that work in that field.
Yes it’s absolutely exhausting

This pandemic has really brought out the worst in some members of the public. The thing that I find extremely difficult to deal with is having to listen to the public get upset because of the new Covid restrictions and then go on a rant with conspiracy theories etc thrown in. All the while we have to listen to it and be polite when really they are spewing dangerous nonsense and I want to tell them to get their purchases and move along.
Be kind to the retail workers right now, we are exhausted and doing the best we can.

Count all your interactions, good and bad. I will bet you a million dollars that your day is being ruined by 1 or 2 people and that dozens of interactions go just fine.

like we have trained people to be this way. By constantly prioritizing the "rights" of consumers we have created monsters. Which is prob why people are out there protesting their right to go shopping. If only they were so passionate about human rights.

Customer service isn't limited to minimum wage jobs. There are many, many professional jobs that require "client service" or "stakeholder engagement". Don't think people get more pleasant to deal with just because they are categorized differently.
