Reverse engineering burgers

ViA just recently released a list of top 10 hamburgers in Vancouver.... I can't afford to eat at these places though (oh god! they would probably force me to tip 25% for take-away right now too). ... so I am scoping the article that shows each burger.. and they look really simple to re-invent at home. They list all the ingredients and you can see the patty and tell if there are additional herbs and spices in it. I think I have a fighting chance at this. Why haven't I been making my burgers at home? This is something where it might actually be a win for me.

I’m taken aback at the price of restaurant burgers these days. Generally $14-20 for one burger. I used to enjoy eating out but the sticker shock at the end of the night ($75-100 for the 2 of us and were not having steaks or anything) makes me space out FAR in the future the next time I plan for us to go out. Did we get $100 of enjoyment out of it? It’s debatable. Would I rather prepare $10 of food at home and enjoy $90 in my bank account? Definitely yes. Enjoy your home made burgers OP, we will be doing the same!

Buy burgers out: for the $17 they want for a meal I can buy enough lean ground, buns and fixing to make a dozen. And on my BBQ they're better anyways.

They have the Presidents Choice burger packs, usually the same price as ground..you'll get eight 6 oz burgers..1.4 kg for $11,always on sale. Sometimes they come on sale for $9. No additives, just spices and herbs. Add bacon, cheese, onions etc.
Make your own wedges.
My fave is carmelized onions, and a bit of blue cheese,or blue cheese salad dressing.
Or pay $17 for a burger and a few fries...

I make a point of only getting things out that I couldn't eat better at home. You raise a point, though, and since my partner loves burgers I think we should try making some.

Used to like the food court beef or chicken teriyaki with came with rice and cabbage/carrot. The chicken or beef is usually all grisly or knarly so I will make a home with nice cuts of meat.
