Trying to make friends is like dating

It takes a lot time and energy pretending to be politically correct not to offend so I can be accepted. Keeping up an image and pretending to be someone that I am not is also exhausting. The moment I let my guard down I get disappointed. Anytime I can be ghosted for what ever reason. Making friendships with anyone no longer important to me.

For sure

And then you get ghosted and you think what did I say and do? Why didn’t they like me? And so on. The rejection is just like dating and I’m not sure if I want to pursue them anymore either.

Some of my closest or newest friends totally withdrew after admitting my addictions to them

Those aren't friends you're trying to make.

There is no fun...

...in not being your authentic self.

If you’re finding that you’re having to change or censor yourself in order to make others happy, it might be helpful to either:

a) Find friends who you share your ideologies and/or are open to healthy debate with people from differing views.

b) Take some time to re-examine your political beliefs to see if they need an update or evolution. We don’t have to hold all of our ideologies forever if they are not serving us.

(Consider: why are you attracted to making friends who appreciate political correctness?)

Good luck!

Maybe if you stop pretending you'll attract friends who are more like you?

You Don't get It

At the best of times people are trying to get their lives in order, dealing with older parents, family strife, career worries etc. And on top of that living in the most expensive place in N America, scrambling to make enough to pay rent/mortgage etc. Or can't pay that, and live in shared rentals as the housing market has .0001% vacancy.
Most don't have time or the energy left

Yeah, like a few other people said, this isn't for friendship. This is how you should treat co-workers who you don't fully get along with. Inauthenticity is for the watercooler, not the donut shop.

Vancouver's a deep pool with shallow people. So many looking for an audience instead of a friend. They love to talk about themselves.
