Yup, the scale has got to go

A couple of months ago I realized for the first time in my life I was actually getting fat. This was a shock, I've been one of those fortunate people who eats whatever and my weight stays the same. Well, the lower activity brought on by the pandemic plus increased eating and I ballooned. So I bought a cheap scale, increases exercising and started dieting. It worked, lost 20 pounds in 2 months. It was difficult, I was basically hungry for the entire 2 months. But a new obsession developed, checking my weight every morning. And it got very dysfunctional. There were mornings where I knew I had been very diligent the day before and yet I would be 2 pounds heavier and this would ruin my entire day! No more. Scale is in the back of the closet. I'm much more aware of my diet now but it's not about a number, it's about feeling good. The scale was ruining my mental health!

Lack of a scale is ruining your physical health. Two pounds is easily explained by drinking- or not- some water or juice. Get moving, eat less.

Normal fluctuations like that within a few pounds on a daily basis don't mean much. They change based on how hydrated we are, when did we last eat, exercise, use the bathroom, etc. You need to average your weight out over a few weeks to get a true reading, always doing it at the same time, such as when you wake up after using the bathroom. It is a valuable and important thing to track, but it sounds like you weren't relating to it well I guess. Well maybe you can check on it once or twice a month to make sure things are not getting out of hand without your knowledge. Choose the weight that is best for your health.

Weight fluctuates. When I’m doing the best in my sport, topping records and achieving personal records, my weight is the highest. I’m muscular. It might be a blow if I look at a number on a scale. But in the winter, when I’m at my weakest, when training drops down to nothing, I’m at my lightest. So what is important to me: being high-level strong, or weigh less? I’d rather weigh more. And what is the joy in losing 20 lbs if you were hungry for 2 months? That sounds like hell to me.
