I want to live alone

A bachelor suite costs more than 50% of my gross monthly income. And there’s no air conditioning?! The fuck is wrong with this town?

The world is much much larger than Vancouver, but once you are in the Vancouver vortex 'they' make sure you think it's the only place that matters.
They need to surround themselves with poor people failing in a broken system to make them look like they are winning.
It was tough to leave a beautiful place.
But there are places that want specifically 'me' too.
And they are also beautiful.
And the rent is paid by the employer.
And there is air conditioning.
(and you need it 365 days a year)

Back in 1977 my unemployment insurance money of $110 dollars paid out every 2 weeks in a paper cheque would easily add up to make the $150 rent for my Bidwell Street penthouse/attic.

Back in the times when Vancouver was like a sleepy little lumber town.

I pity you. You're living a nightmare.

Combine the following: gorgeous natural surroundings and a lovely climate, crooked politicians and developers, naive and gullible locals, greedy foreign criminal gangs, an overwhelming number of people moving here in the past 3 decades at the same time as the greedy developers were tearing down rental buildings to build condos (or converting said rental buildings into condos), and finally, Air BNB. That’s what happened to create the disaster we now call Vancouver.

Needs air conditioning? I think you should reset your expectations. Move to Maple Ridge where your rent will go further and AC will seem less insane.

Residential air conditioning in Vancouver is waste for the sake of waste.

Yes, rent in this city is very expensive. But air conditioning??? It's terrible for the environment and you don't need air conditioning in Vancouver - it is very rarely hot

What’s wrong with this town?

I could give you a list....

But back to your place. Yes, a bachelor rental is ridiculous. Once my bachelor rental cost 1/2 my monthly salary, I just went ahead and bought a place. Best decision of my financial life. (It’s fully paid off now, so I have no rent or mortgage payments)

I don’t think many places have A/C. This is Vancouver, not Phoenix.
