Airborne high anxiety
posted July 6th, 2020 at 11:06 PM
I have to fly to Ontario in a few days due to a serious family matter, and my anxiety is through the roof about contracting Covid19 on the plane. Air Canada is refusing to make even casual face coverings mandatory for it's passengers! In a plane full of recirculating air! I think this is incredibly irresponsible of them. It's bad enough that they are filling in the middle seats again, but now I have to deal with the possibility of being surrounded by a bunch of virus- spewing morons as well ??
This means that if I want to keep myself and my family healthy, I'll have to wear a high-end N95 type mask (not very comfortable) continuously for at least five hours. Who exactly is guiding Air Canada's medical policies these days, the orange man in the white house? What a terrific job he's been doing ...
Wish me luck.

Huh? Everything I'm finding still says that masks are required for flying in Canada. What's your source?

Are you going to quarantine for 2 weeks upon arrival like a responsible person? Otherwise you shouldn't be flying period, ffs.

if you have a serious family matter, deal with that.
deal with the plane issues and masks.
if you are a Canadian and "orange man bad" is an issue, that's really lame and generic.

I ain’t flying. For the next few years.
If it helps, me dentist wore an N95 mask, then a blue medical mask, then a plastic face visor. It’s a lot of gear, but it might make you feel like you’re doing your absolute best to avoid infection.

First, you do not have to fly Air Canada.
Second, you do not have to fly at all.
You can drive. It takes a few days, but the scenery is incredible.
As for your claim about the masks being uncomfortable, try being a surgeon!
You're right about Air Canada being irresponsible, but you have options.
From Transport Canada
Jul 7, 2020 at 5:00pm
As of Monday, April 20th at 12 pm EDT, Transport Canada requires that all guests have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel.
When traveling by air, you will be required to cover your mouth and nose:
at Canadian airport screening checkpoints
while boarding your flight
at all times during the flight
when instructed to by a crew member
All guests must be in possession of their own face mask or non-medical mask. Failure to have one could result in a denial of boarding.

You shouldn't be flying, period.
I don't care about your bloody family out east that you left behind. I care about the environment.

Wear your mask! And a plastic gown and gloves and shoe covers, show up like a hazmat man and you’ll be ok! I had to fly twice last month and that’s just what I did, no sickness in sight.
