Brainwashing

As an old native of BC I admit that it bugs me that Americans are so brainwashed that they believe that all of their tv series that are actually filmed right here, are in the US. They think all of those beautiful settings they’re seeing are theirs, when in fact they’re in our gorgeous country. I’ve met Americans who truly believe that the US is the largest country in the world, because their maps show it that way. I’ve met Americans who believe that somehow, an ice floe exists as soon as the border is crossed. That we really live in plaid year ‘round and that our pets are polar bears and wolves, that we keep outside our igloos. I once had an American seriously ask me how I got to their state because they didn’t know that we had airports. On the other hand, I’m kind of happy that at least some of them are this ill-informed, or there’d probably be a rush on the border considering the shit show happening down there lol.

That you care so much what Americans think and do. To me, it sounds like you are brainwashed to dislike Americans because that is what the TV says to do.
But hey.... I'm just spitballing.

You're as ignorant as you're portraying them

As someone who has a few American relative and friends, I resent your suggestion that they're all dumb fucks who don't have a clue about us or the rest of the world. Sure there are some of them that dumb, and those are the ones who voted for Trump. But the rest are varying degrees of intelligent right up to genius.
Also, clueless OP, tons of them have already rushed to and crossed the border to escape the shit show, from the Underground Railroad to Vietnam to Dubya to the asshole in office now.
Take your hatred of our southern neighboUrs and shove it up your ignorant ass... of course you'll have to pull your head out first.

I once ran into a lady visiting Canada from the US that thought she could only use US coins in our vending machines because Coca Cola is made in the US. DOH!

It's a delicate balance between wanting them to stay dumb enough not to want to come here, and become smart enough not to vote the apricot in again...

Bullshit post and the fact that you're getting upvotes shows how naive Vancouverites are about Americans. Trump supporters are mostly stupid, but they're a minority and some know exactly what they're doing because they're racist and very (warped) conservative economic values. It's strategic to have such a person in office.

I spent 15 years overseas and the truth is that people aren't ignorant about Canada, it's that they just don't care. Why would they? Canada is bland, boring and hasn't pulled its weight internationally for years. It's all talk and virtue signalling. It's been resting on its laurels and that's why it didn't get a seat on the NATO security council. Canada rarely makes the news internationally. Only when there's a change in prime minister. Maybe when Canada actually does something significant people will take notice.

I didn’t say “all” Americans are dumb. I lived down there myself for a time and the comments I made in my post are based on actual conversations I had with some. Obviously you can’t generalize to apply that type of ignorance to an entire population, and I’m not doing that. I’m simply expressing some frustration that on tv and in movies so many of our gorgeous spaces are portrayed as being in the US. That’s all. Cool your jets.
