Clothes

My boyfriend insists on wearing these old high school and college jerseys. They have rips and tears all over them. I am embarrassed to be seen outside with him.

If your relationship

is based largely on superficial nonsense such as clothes you are both wasting your time. Find a boyfriend that shares your interest in clothes and other trivial nonsense and you will be much happier.

I’ve made guys throw out old gym shorts and athletic sandals they’d had since high school and were trying to wear them out for brunch at 30+ years of age. Some guys have no clue. It also depends on the article of clothing. A vintage classic shirt can look cool. Old gym rags? Wtf...

Clothes do not make the man. Thinking they do, or being embarrassed by what someone else wears says a lot about you, and nothing about them.
I personally think the guy dresses weird, but if that's your beef against him, I think you're just looking for reasons to dump the dude.

If it bothers you so much, buy him some new jerseys. Or learn to sew.

You've got to accept him for who he is. That's what I get told when I complain about my girlfriend. No double standards, now.

Dump him. You'll find someone who dresses to your standards and he'll find someone who doesn't care what he looks like.

I had...

... a girlfriend who did this to me. It is abusive, controlling behavior. If you love someone, you love the person, not what he's wearing. There's an anecdote about Donald Trump doing this to one of his sons. Comes to pick him up, sees he's not in a suit, slaps him, says "put on a suit."

If you're that sort of person, find someone compatible with you rather than abusing someone who is comfortable as he is. The girlfriend who abused me like this, eventually she got bored of me anyway. You are shallow.
