Global Megacorps

I think Amazon and Walmart are great and buy stuff from them all the time. All hail the giant mega corps, who make our lives easier and provide cheap stuff! I understand many of the arguments against them, but I don't find them particularly convincing. You can buy overpriced stuff from local small business all you want. I will take my cheap convenience, we can all live together. This doesn't mean you are better than me, like you probably think you are. Maybe I'm broke and have no choice, its Walmart or I'm sleeping on the streets.

Chicken or egg?

It really is hard to know which caused which. These large companies are infamous for paying shitty salaries with no beneifits. As a result, these employees don’t earn enough income to buy from a small business, that requires a larger margin on basic products to survive. Hence, forcing them to shop at a Walmart or amazon.
I don’t know what your employment entails, but if you made more, you could spend more, have power on your spending on where you share your wealth, and spread that shit around.

Or, you could earn more money.

Yes, because it's just that easy to earn more money.
Here's a thought, maybe OP, if it's choosing between Walmart and sleeping on the streets, just MAYBE you don't actually NEED the stuff you're buying.
Also, amazon, Walmart & the likes can eat shit. What they've capitalized on is definitely of no true value other than to the greed of convenience. We're much worse off in ways we can't unravel from at the continued level.

Yes, you can earn more money if you choose.
Educate yourself, there's cheap financing from the technical and health institutions themselves.
There are labour shortages in many fields, look them up.
Or,instead of watching Netflix all weekend and evenings pick up some extra work.
I worked 60+ hours a week for years to get ahead, and I did.
Either get down to it, or stop making excuses.

My 2 cents

I find I get a look of disgust if I mention ordering something from Amazon.ca. This look of disgust comes from people that do all their grocery shopping at Whole Foods and pay through the nose to profit the exact same owner.

No easy way out

Some of us in rural areas don't have much choice. The price of goods on the island where I live can be double in some cases. People who visit are shocked and on return trips, bring a cooler full of food bought elsewhere. Sorry, but on a fixed income I try to buy what I can locally, but must also use Walmart and Amazon. And I like the service. No miserable shopping experience, just one stop pick ups.
If you think this means you are in bed with evil, then I challenge all of you to get off Facebook, stop using Google, all of it, the works. Unless you have opted out of all these systems entirely, you are likely being hypocritical.

Now *that* is a dangerous opinion - a real confession. People here confess all kinds of mild things, like, they confess that they like beer, or that they don't like their neighbour. Confessing that you want to endorse giant megacorporations is truly wack and out there! Next thing you know, you'll be saying that there is no evidence that genetically modified foods are harmful.
