A thought about schools reopening

As a post-secondary student required to take an in-person class this fall, I know that with my program's attendance policies, I can't afford to miss class. How many other people will be in the same situation?

You aren't required to do anything. If you aren't comfortable then take other classes or take a gap year. Yeesh, so dramatic.

It must be nice to be in a position of privilege where taking a gap year is even an option... If I don't finish my program now, I likely won't have the chance to finish it ever, and I won't have any way to ever pay back my student loans. I can't just take other classes, either - these are the classes required to complete my program. In my department, attendance in class is mandatory. If you're not there, you automatically fail. So far, I haven't heard anything about that changing due to the pandemic. You can't simultaneously tell people to either be in class or fail AND to stay home if you have even mild respiratory symptoms.

Nice use of the word privileged. Only privileged people are in a position to use it.
