Curious

I’m genuinely curious to know what exactly the people screaming about a “Covid conspiracy” believe that conspiracy is? Who stands to gain? Thousands are unemployed and using up government (taxpayer) funds at a dizzying rate. Thousands of businesses are closed and may never reopen. So really, why would anyone deliberately create a false pandemic that’s affecting the entire planet? I’m truly curious about how these people have come to this conclusion.

Incapable brain and congnitive deficiencies

Things can be explained from bottom up... when you get really on top of it... things get complicated, there are too many variables to consider and we acknowledge there are limits to our reasoning, and for practical reasons, we assume a lot. Limits and assumptions are a reasonable compromise as we respond to the natural world around us on a daily basis... conspiracy theorists either make unreasonable assumptions or their reasoning is fallacious, not all analogies and syllogisms are logically correct. But scream it loud enough in a room of idiots and it makes you feel right and powerful. It boils down to their extremely fragile ego and narcissistic injury... they cannot grap the prospect of being wrong, they cannot reconcile that they don't have all the knowledge to make an iron clad conclusion... we should feel sorry for them.

Answering your question only (the following is not a position I hold):

Government gives billions in relief payments to the “have’s”. The “have not’s” also get a smaller percentage of the billions.

Fast forward a couple years, taxes increase on the “have not’s” disproportionately to the “have’s” and various social programs are cut or reduced.

Wealth transfer complete.

The stock market took a dive and then swiftly recovered. If you were desperate for cash or nervous, you would have sold, causing market to drop. If you had cash available and understand markets, you would have bought at the bottom and then made a killing when the stocks rose again. Simple. These sort of people don't care about unemployment or government debt, they are only concerned with personal gain.

Who stands to gain?

Obviously not the common person or small business owner, as you pointed out.

Till conspiracy theorists discover they're part of a conspiracy theory to use conspiracy theorists to spread disinformation via conspiracy theories.

My socially distanced friend and I had this same discussion yesterday. If COVID is truly a hoax, who exactly is benefitting? WHAT is the benefit when globally people have lost their livelihoods, destabilizing numerous nations? The facts are that humans are overpopulating the earth, where we enter ecosystems due to seeking new land and resources, and we invariably unleash diseases upon ourselves. AIDS, MERS, the flu, SARS, Ebola, all jumped from animals to us. We must accept responsibility that we are intruding into the animal world, and this COVID-19 is the result.
