Don't bother job shaming me
posted August 3rd, 2020 at 1:50 AM
Sure, I don't make a lot of money and my current job may not seem like the most glamorous, but before you decide to judge or pity me consider this: I am not being micro-managed all day by some crazy boss and I am not getting constantly bullied and belittled in front of others. I don't have a 2 hour commute to and from work every day, and I am allowed to work from home. I get to avoid the all too common office politics, and am still able to have good relations with positive management and coworkers. I am not in a bad place.

In light of the pandemic crisis, you’re in a good position. I’m also in approximately the same boat. Let’s consider ourselves extremely, extremely fortunate and never take it for granted.
I have the feeling

This is in response to the Government job posting? I don't think it was targeted at you.
You are in a great place!

Your job is exactly what I was trying to achieve but failed. My job was unfortunately the other scenario you describe. I'm out of it now and, although I'm a lot poorer financially, I count myself lucky... Who cares what other people think.

Sounds great or less you're an internet moderator, just kidding. Come on tell us what’s your job?
I put panels on towers.

I am a wage slave. 24$/hr. Swing stages in most weather conditions. 400ft. 2 hour commute. I spend 2hrs at home coming down from the stress of all the bullshit you mentioned with crap-managers, and heights. I fantasize about ditching work for weeks because I know how much I carry. I am struggling to make ends meet in Vancouver. I don’t think you should feel ashamed of your job. We all need to make ends meet, and you’re not hurting anybody. I’m not where I want to be, but I’ve got a few dreams, and I’m working on them.
I used to be superior

At least that’s how I thought. I had several careers during my working life. Senior level, requiring long hours and lots of education. Not to mention a ton of stress! Unfortunately, not even close to enough money to make any of it worthwhile. Now I realize that the job does NOT in any way define the person. Brilliant people with multiple degrees can be employed in low-level positions. Someone can be a house cleaner but in their previous job they ran a company. Sometimes taking a lower-responsibility job is a choice one makes to be able to enjoy the other things that life had to offer. In other words, don’t judge a book by it’s cover!
Brag to me

while you enjoy your life, others are less fortunate to be able to afford rent. Some people don't really have a choice. they put up with all that sh*t in order to support themselves, as well as financially support their family. Luxury isn't an option, nor is breaking thin for hitting the basic living commodities.
I work from hone

And still get bullied by bosses and ignored/one-up'd by co workers...
Great!

If you like and appreciate your job, it’s probably a good job! I’m at the age of turning to the obituary section after news and Canucks and it doesn’t seem that most people are remembered for their fascinating career but for their family, friends, and interests. Something to remember in our brief dream of life
