Is this a joke?

People don't have money in Vancouver, but now they're all paying for food delivery? Even people on EI eat out more than I do. I'm seriously a grinch, eh? I don't see why anyone bothers try anymore. This is all gonna blow up in our face and hard-working people will have to clean-up the next recession mess.... but on the scale it might occur at, I am doubtful we can really do the heavy lifting next time.

I've never paid for those things. Ever.
However, Ubereats seems to want my business aggressively

Haven’t eaten out since mid-March and am much happier for it. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I think that the stress of getting from one place to another pre-COVID made me addicted to eating out as a way of relaxing, as well as simple luxuries like $4 Americanos and pastries.

Wish I’d been smarter all along — would have much more money in the bank that I could put toward things I actually want and need.

sorry for the redundancy, but I've said this on many of the f.o.m.o. confessions.
many people simply are not saving for what is going to be a much tougher winter. the smart people are living frugally right now. when the dominoes fall, the grasshoppers are the ones that are most screwed.

Economical for some, sometimes.

I live alone and if I order certain take out foods, I can get 3 or 4 meals out of it. I don't have a lot of money, but doing that a couple of times a month is not an issue.

maybe that EI idea of eating out is a way to subtly indicate their death wish.

“people don’t have money in vancouver”? What are you talking about? Have you seen real estate prices? Condos and houses are still being bought and sold. People are driving around in their stupid expensive cars. There are lineups for $4 donuts.

TONS of people have TONS have money. (Like, honey, you have NO idea how very very rich the very rich people here are). And TONS of people are barely scraping by. And even more people are making stupid decisions because they have credit cards and have been listening to decades of “you deserve it!” “Treat yourself!” or “Look at me supporting a local business with its $8 ice cream cones and $20 terrible burgers and $6 fancy coffee! but it’s local so it must be right and good?”

They don’t have money. They have liquidity in some cases but I think that isn’t the majority of younger people. This bubble will burst soon. I think everyone feels it... it’s all built on stock market confidence, Chinese investors, Canadian investors and young poor people who really don’t have money. If young people don’t have money, see what happens after CErB dries out in the next covid round.

I pretty much agree

It's really none of my concern but I've mentioned to friends that in the midst of a pandemic, I'm surprised at Vancouver's continued appetite for take out food. The economic fall-out from COVID won't really come into the eye of the masses for another 6 to 12 months. It's pretty certain it'll be a wake-up-and-smell-the-bacon (that you cooked yourself) reckoning.

My sibling is on CERB and actually booked a vacation rental at $400/night. Wtf! With no job!! Me and my husband make decent money and would NEVER pay $400/night for a hotel ( I’m cheap). I think because it’s “free money” ppl want to splurge as they never would with their own hard/earned money.

There's a lot of money in Vancouver but there's also a huge level of wealth inequality. I'm sorry you're not doing well.

The worlds economies are coming to a stand still and COVID-19 is just a part of the problem. Climate change will cause a great deal of chaos in the worlds economies and don't think people in Vancouver living off their real estate investments won't feel it. That'll level the playing field. Sadly, the playing field will be completely f#cked and no one will benefit.

Oh, and buy gold and silver. Fiat currency is on the ropes to use another sports metaphor.
