Roommate doesn't even wash his hands

I see no effort in his part on anything, so he's getting the boot next month. No social distancing, hand-washing in the house at all seemingly (not that I am watching closely but I buy the soap and know the usage), and no cleaning meanwhile working from home. Why would I put up with this? Sick of seeing his messes and don't want to get sick. My family is here, so not worth the risk having the douche bag around.

Zero tolerance

Glad to see some are getting the message - other people's actions can have serious consequences. We all need to step up and say we're not putting up with this crap any more. Be a responsible citizen or ship out!

Let's hope the government introduces laws to help roommates evict dirty non-social distancing covid carriers.

Good but...

Assuming that you’ve told him directly about your concerns, then I agree that he should be given the boot. If not, then you owe it to him to give him an opportunity to correct his behaviour. However, if you’re the main and original tenant, why would you not have a legal agreement drawn up at the time that you agreed to allow him to move In? It’s really not that difficult, and can save you a whole lot of hassle should the arrangement not work out. I’ve done it myself one time when I wanted to sublet a room in a place I was renting. I wrote up a tenancy agreement that would protect both of us, just like a regular tenancy agreement is supposed to protect both parties.

My Mother's Favourite Saying

Comes to mind: "Hang him, and be done with it." Yes, she's real old school; and, no I don't think she really meant it literally.

what planet are you from? great idea with the right opportunities, but most people are flakes when you're finding craigslist roommates.

You’ve illustrated my point perfectly. The whole reason behind writing up a legal agreement is so that you protect yourself against “flakes”, regardless of where you find a roommate. In fact I found an amazing person to rent my second bedroom, from CL. If you’re not doing your own due diligence when looking for someone to share your space with, that’s on you. If you choose to accept anyone without references or without an agreement, then you should be prepared to accept the consequences. (Btw, I’m from right here on planet earth!)

Wut?

I mean the cleanliness issue is certainly a problem, but seriously -
Social distancing in an apartment? What, you want him to wear a mask too? He’s in your “bubble”, and if he works from home, doesn’t go out much he’s probably low risk to you. Speak with him, like an adult

Try washing your hands when you get home from grocery shopping, dingus.

My roommate doesn't wash, period

Takes a bath about twice a month. I only noticed during lockdown, when I was here all the time. I'm outta here asap.
