Accomodations

After the first 6 months of the pandemic, I am completely burnt out of helping others. Delivering food, groceries, masks, gas cards, sanitizers, making business cards for their next venture, driving them so they don’t have to transit, etc etc etc I feel like I’ve gone above and beyond like 300% but the next 6 months, I’m dialing it back to take care of me. Totally exhausted and want to live in a cave for a bit.

You're helping your parents, with no other siblings, or helping someone handicapped: you are being used and abused.

That’s so great that you’ve been looking out for others and being of service to those who truly need it during these Incredibly trying times. After searching for decades, I have come to the conclusion, that being of service to others is the only definitive thing in life that I can truly say gives life any certain meaning. Just don’t forget to fill up your well first. Remember, you have to put on your own oxygen mask first, before helping those around you.

Never quit helping others. Sure take a breather to attend your own Covid Blues but don't go cold-hearted on those less fortunate than yourself. There is a Universal reality that: "You help yourself through helping others." Buck that and it is like denying another Universal reality called Gravity and you crash.

...but martyrs only exist with their own consent, and you don't have to be one. If you find yourself complaining about all the ways you're not being recognized for all your hard work, maybe rethink why you're doing so, and what you're expecting in return.

The key to a happy life is expecting little from others, especially in response to basic human kindnesses <3

While it’s true that it is our own responsibility to set boundaries when giving our time and energy to others, I didn’t get the impression that OP was presenting as a martyr.

It sounds like they have thought a lot about the issue of over-giving, have identified the active role that they can take in fixing it, and are making the healthy decision to put their needs first for the time being.
