Awkward

We have shared laundry in my building and I had laundry in the dryer. I try to make sure I'm back down to collect it a few minutes before the cycle finishes, but yesterday I was a few minutes late and walked in to find my neighbour was folding my laundry. While I appreciated his act of kindness, I was a little taken back that he was folding my thongs with a pair in his hands. I quickly left with my laundry, squirming with awkwardness and embarrasment. Who folds thongs?? There's nothing to them! I'm staying with my laundry from now on and I'm dreading seeing my neighbour again.

At least you recovered all your thongs. My male neighbour stole them from my laundry pile and I hated to see his ugly face therein after. Fast forward 10 years, I bought my own place with my own laundry machines, paid it off and am now mortgage-free. Renting fucking sucks!

He wasn't being nice

He knew that that kind of violation of your intimate boundaries was kind of pervy. Give him a real wide berth.

We have a 10 minute rule in the building I live in. So if you don't collect your laundry 10 minutes after the machine stops, other folks can take it out and put it on top or into the person's basket (if present). No stranger has ever folded my laundry. I'd consider that an intrusion of my privacy. Personally, I have an aversion to touching other people's laundry. I certainly wouldn't touch someone's undergarments! I have to wonder what he was thinking. I mean some folks have mental disorders that can lead to these kinds of behaviours; and some are just fucking creeps.

I fold laundry!

Because I feel rude dumping it on top of the dryer. If people were really concerned about others seeing their undies they wouldn't leave their dried laundry on the laundry room for hours, which is what happens in my building.

For what it's worth I am a woman and yes I have also folded thongs. I mean kind of, like just one fold. I get no sexual charge from it, just trying to be nice.

If you don't want people to see your gotch set your alarm when you start the dryer.

Well don’t leave it there all day

Other people have lives and their laundry to do. That person was probably being nice but got mentally chastised by you because of the times and all the actual creepers out there

They were probably just being nice, and like most people you projected "intimacy" where none existed.
This may seem brusque, yet it needs to be said:
When in a shared facility, it's really rude to leave your things, forcing others to go through the discomfort of having to deal with them. That's inconsiderate. And they could've just dumped them somewhere but they aren't rude, so they treated them the way they would want others to treat their own things. That's considerate.
Did you leave a hamper for someone to put your things in? Probably not (which is inconsiderate), hence they did the next best thing, or what would be, in their mind, an action with care versus merely tossing things on a dirty surface to get all wrinkly and soiled (again, considerate).
So, next time leave a hamper, bag or whatever in case someone has to empty the machine (which is considerate) so they aren't forced to dump your things, or, even better, use the technology we all have: set your alarm on your smartphone so you can retrieve your laundry when it's done and stop unfairly imposing your laziness and/or lack of consideration on others, which is what you're doing (and for that, you should be embarrassed about).
