On Love and Completeness

The manic pixie dream girl was supposed to complete me! In the Hollywood plot the male protagonist is generally doing fine but needs to save the hot slightly moody creative girl from her slight moodiness, and she can in turn save him by being hot and creative. Instead, she turned out to be far more complicated, and the glimpses into her life made me wonder what the hell was wrong with me if this is the love I think I deserved. I wanted sex not existential crisis!

You are aware the term manic pixie dream girl was created to bring attention to how incredibly toxic and misogynistic it is for movies to use women as props form male self-development or completion, I hope? It's not meant to be a goal. It's meant to make guys contemplate that women might actually be people in and of themselves. We aren't here to complete sad boys like you.

Yes, absolutely. And I do understand. Now.
But this was meant as a reflection. You know...it boggles my mind that on confessions whenever a guy actually thinks about his relationship with women he is shat upon. I wonder if many women on here think boys grow up in a culture that prepares them for meaningful relationships? It took a few university degrees to help me consider that maybe James Bond and tallying bed notches wasn't healthy. So it's kind of strange that guys are all supposed to have it all perfectly figured out from the get-go.

Did she make you cry, and make you break down, and shatter your illusions of love? And is it over now? Do you know how to pick up the pieces and go home?

You are aware the term "bad boy" was created to bring attention to how incredibly toxic and misandric it is for movies to use men as props form female self-development or completion, I hope? It's not meant to be a goal. It's meant to make women contemplate that good men might actually be people in and of themselves and not to be disregarded and ignored for the "bad boy". We aren't here to complete sad girls like you.

I understand that you’re obviously very young and inexperienced with women. You’re also a victim of the ridiculous stereotypical portrayal of hetero women on mainstream media. When you begin to actually engage in real life with real women, you will (hopefully) begin to comprehend that we are human beings and, just like men, are not easily pegged into any particular stereotype. Please keep your mind and your heart open. If you can do both of those things, whether or not it works out the way you or Hollywood expects it to, you’re well on you’re way to adulthood.
