Sometimes

I just wish the world would end already. Trump, Covid, mass social unrest, fires, moths.....what’s next? Not too sure I want to stick around to find out! Sometimes I think it’s the people who want to hang on to this dysfunctional world who are the craziest!!

Every decade has its own "The End is Nigh"-ists

Sep 13, 2020 at 4:35pm

In no particular order, and by no means comprehensive: plagues plagues plagues, the Cold War, nuclear armament, Vietnam, Thatcher, abject poverty, strikes, forest fires, the violent overturning of governments, Cambodia, the governmental 'Star Wars' of the 80's, civil rights riots, Bush / Harper (how naive we were back then...!), AIDS, killer bees, crime sprees, the war on drugs, worldwide outbreaks of disease, ebola, SARS, the West Nile virus, climate change, the hole in the ozone, basically the lyrics of 'We Didn't Start the Fire'...

We are programmed evolutionarily to look for 'bad news' first, so we can better analyze immediate threats, and there are always immediate threats; our media has slowly descended into presenting every single goddamned thing as world-ending, because they understand that psychology - it keeps us rooted in fear, and to our screens.

Of course, pandemic-living is f*cking shitty, but humanity has had to deal with that every 100 years or so. Of course we're going to have shitty politicians, because the world has always its fair share of shitty people. Every single generation believes that they're special enough to witness The End of the World, but contrary to popular belief, there's a lot of good happening out there too - we're just not hardwired to see that first, and because of the way our media works, we have to seek it out.

The only thing we can count on

is that everything changes. Nothing is permanent.
Keep that in mind and it will be easier to weather the present storm. Or shit-storm.

Easy answer to all that

Just turn off your television for a few weeks and your world will return to normal. I don't even own one anymore and I enjoy a rather blissful existence. Sure, moths are a nuisance, I agree, and USA presidents' only purpose are to be hated, I agree. Covid and social unrest are hassles I can easily navigate. Sure, call me crazy. But I grew up during the Cold War. That was a time when the USA and the Soviets were planning on using Canada as some kind of no-mans land for their up-coming MAD (mutually assured destruction) adventure. I remember my grade three teacher explaining to us how easy it would be to survive a nuclear explosion and how important it was to do just that. So if you think that you are a little fatigued with today's doom-sayers, watch out, it can get worse. Don't check yourself off the planet just yet. Turn off the TV. Go have a good time. The 'pursuit of happiness' is what it is all about.

The world won't end. The planet will be just fine and will ultimately rejuvenate. Humanity may collapse, and it will be a living hell for survivors.

Maybe if we paid attention to those highly intelligent people that have been warning us for 40 years or more, that raping the earth, and a dependency on fossil fuels would lead to climate change and pandemic instead of buying stupid sh#t to impress our friends or because we're so scared, insecure we need to belong and it gives us that temporary endorphin fix to fill that hole in our pathetic lives we wouldn't be in this situation.

"Don't depend on death

Sep 13, 2020 at 8:42pm

to liberate you from your imperfections. You are exactly the same after death as you were before. Nothing changes; you only five up your body. If you are a thief or a liar or a cheater before death, you don't become an angel merely by dying. If such were possible then let us go and jump in the ocean now and become angels at once! Whatever you made of yourself thus far, so will you be hereafter. And when you reincarnate, you will bring that same nature with you. To change, you have to make the effort. This world is the place to do it." - Yogananda

I like what 'every' has to say about not panicking and over focusing on the negative; but to go for the positive. It ain't as simple as good guys and bad guys or 'them vs. us.' I used to think that way in my younger immature years but then i started meeting some good hearted people who chose quietly and humbly work within the institutions of society and, i started to realize that enough of us on the protest side of the divide were counterproductive to progress. That's not to say that we may not be on the edge of a 'mass extinction event' on this our home planet. Whatever happens, be of good cheer because this planet is but one stop upon our way and life is eternal.
