I changed my mind

At the beginning of covid, I use to think wearing masks was dumb. I hated it because breathing was difficult and ignorantly thought it was stupid. But now with covid still lingering and witnessing the statistics of covid, I realized people have loved ones who are susceptible to the covid virus. Its not a matter of protecting myself, its a matter of protecting other people. I realized I was just being selfish so I just sucked it up and just wore the darn mask . As a former non mask wearer I am starting to notice non mask wearers and realize how selfish and ignorant those people are. I hate wearing the mask but I became more mindful of others around me. I use to be anti mask but it feels good on the inside just to do my part. Now I think only selfish A-holes don't wear a mask.

A man in the states just caught COVID-19 for a second time. Wear your masks.

Good on you for changing your stance and understanding where you were coming from and how you were wrong.

Wash your hands as well

And don't touch your face either. That means stop playing with your mask and then touch everything around yourself, like door knobs and elevator buttons. You cross contaminate everything when you do that. It's self-defeating and doesn't help you or anyone else. You may as well spit everywhere.

Adapt

Oct 13, 2020 at 8:31pm

Yes... we all must adapt. It is hard. Those that resist is in part due to the fact they they feel helpless and want to try to "control" their life. I read that something somewhere from a psychologist.

So maybe it is not because the are A holes necessarily, but are having a tough time in these challenging social environments. They just want it to be the "way before covid".

Makes me wonder what life was like during WW2. Those were dark times. In the USA... they are also in very dark times.

As one of the more vulnerable (a 65 year old quadriplegic on a ventilator), I thank you and others like you.

At the beginning we were advised that wearing masks wasn’t much use. At the time there was also a shortage of them, so the general public was told to leave them for the front line people. After a lot more research was done and the experts learned more about how this virus works, we were told to wear them, and now there’s no excuse not to. I see so many people who are still ignorant of the situation, and I am not-so-secretly fuming when I encounter them. I’m a senior myself, and both my partner and I have very vulnerable elderly parents who we need to look after. We risk infecting them if we’re not careful. I also have younger family members with medical conditions that make them susceptible to infection and subsequent complications. So to anyone out there who’s still too selfish or ignorant to practice proper mask wearing, hand washing, and social distancing, please, I beg you, get your heads out of your asses and behave responsibly!

Counterculture

Generally I rebel against the norm(even if that is immature), thankfully where I live many many many many people during the summer did not wear masks. So I started wearing masks as an F.U. to them.
Sometimes 2 wrongs make a right.

I mostly agree with you. I wear a mask at work 6-7 hours each day, on transit, in grocery stores, sharing a car with anyone. I’m wearing a mask alot, so if I’m out on the street and it’s not too busy, I don’t wear a mask. I need some fresh air. So if you see me outside, don’t judge so harshly.
