Covid plumpness

I had put on some pounds so started going to the gym, worked really hard to burn calories, I was starting to look good, then covid hit. I tried going a couple of times when they opened again but nobody was doing the sanitizing/mask wearing they required, so I stopped. I'm still somewhat active but not to the degree I was before and the weight was creeping back on. Finally, out of desperation, I decided to start skipping breakfast. It worked. My weight has actually dropped quite a bit in the last few months and I don't have to lift weights or run on a treadmill forever to do it. I'll go back to the gym again when it's safer but I'm surprised how effective just missing a small meal can be.

Go for walks.
Buy a rowing machine.
If that's too much, spend $30 on some bands.

You shouldn't skip breakfast. The reason is in the name "Break Fast" Break the fast. You need to eat breakfast to kick start your metabolism in the morning. If you just eat properly and be active you will lose weight. You don't need to cheat and skip food. Whomever told everyone to skip breakfast or do this fasting thing is retarded.

As they say

“Abs are made in the kitchen”. Glad you found something that works for you.

I hear you

And can totally relate. I’ve skipped breakfast quite a lot these past months and only eat one meal a day.

Same. It felt so revelatory when I figure it out! lol. It's pretty much intermittent fasting, right? Just cutting calories, really. This year I *finally* got the how many calories cut = a pound lost and I balanced out the weight I gained at the beginning of COVID. Huzzah!

80/20 rule

Sadly true.
Controlling eating habits much more difficult but the most effective by far. Only 10 to 20 percent of weight loss is exercise, for most people. Though fitness activity is 50 to 80 percent of physical and mental health, in absence of sh!t habits or chronic obesity.
Going to build a course around this - I've been experimenting with my weight for close to 6 years, after decades of "plumpness", as you put it. Haven't worked out in 4 months, but gained only a fraction of my usual "winter 15" (15 pounds of weight or 15 percent of body weight, depending on the person).
At least some good has come of this calamity.

Do whatever works for you

If you feel better for it and aren't getting sick, then that's clearly the way your body functions best. I'm a firm believer in listening to the body. Living life by arbitrary rules is counter-productive.

I stopped eating things with sugar in them like muffins so I could fit more calories in drinking.
