Current regulations' impact on working class

Those, the majority of us, who live paycheck-to-paycheck are getting a raw deal. I live alone and it is very challenging on my mental health. Now i'm not allowed to go see my social contacts, but I am expected to go to work and interact with the public and coworkers doing non-essential services all to keep my bosses paycheck coming? At the risk of my physical health: catching covid?! Fuck this world. Fuck the government. I'm going to go crazy and self destruct from being alone or get covid from having to go to work. I feel so disposable.

I’m sorry but...

What would you suggest as a solution? Reality is that we’re in the midst of a global pandemic. Businesses want to stay open, so that means that they have to take appropriate measures to try to protect their employees. People still need basic supplies. I guess your alternative is to quit your job and be broke, just like those of us who happened to be unemployed when the pandemic hit. Limiting social interaction is the very basic thing that we can do, short of another full lockdown.

Puh-lease... you can see your friends, just do outdoor stuff, keep a distance, wear a mask. So much drama over really small limitations. Boo hoo, you have to cover your mouth, it's winter you'd have a scarf anyways. So you can't sit inside crawling into each other's laps. You're Canadian, we were built for outdoors. There's patios everywhere and it's not that cold. Invest in mittens and a sweater.
Some apps similar to Zoom have Netflix sync up so you can watch movies together. You grab a few brews, share a Spotify list and FaceTime, hang out all the same. Take up gaming if you want to share your wanderlust together.
Get a stuffed animal and put a heating pad and a manual alarm clock in it to cuddle with if you're that insecure that you need a warm body in your arms in order to have fun.
So many options, learn to be flexible instead of whining. It is what it is. It sucks, it's not forever, there's a few vaccines in the pipes, make do. For all the problems in the world that are far worse, you're in a pretty calm place with a lot of resources. Make use of them.

Uh what

I also live alone, and the current restrictions are for us people to stick to 1-2 people in our ‘bubble.’ So, find and stick to your own 1-2 people.

And you’re working (like the majority of human beings everywhere) to put money in your own pocket. We’re not living in Dickensian London here.

We’re ALL at risk of catching Covid. Wear a mask and wash your GD hands.

So sick of hearing people thinking they’re exceptionally hurt by A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC FELT BY EVERYONE IN THE WHOLE GODDAMNED WORLD. We’re in this together; get with at idea and be welcomed in ALL of our SHARED HURT. You’re not alone, and you’re not exceptional.

No, your contribution is valuable and appreciated. If you were disposable you wouldn't be required to work.

It's not that hard

The people I know struggling the worst are the ones who simply don't want to follow the rules. Who don't want to listen to a COVID briefing. Who didn't save half their CERB benefits for the second wave that the benefits were for. We are not in a second wave because of COVID, we're in a second wave because assholes thought they were more important than the health of Canada.

I hear you OP

If I’m not mistaken, your point is that there is a cognitive dissonance happening on a grand scale between the strict social measures being taken to reduce COVID exposures and the “business as usual” economic recovery undertone that results in many employees being thrown under the bus and being required to work in conditions that are questionably safe at best.

LOL to the “didn’t squirrel away half their CERB money” and “we’re all in this together” comments, especially the latter.

It’s not hard to save $1000/month when your expenses are +/- $2000/mo after losing your job? That is impossible so I can only assume you still have your job. Without the rental subsidy, a lot of us are going to lose our homes. Wearing a mask isn’t hard. Paying the bills is another story.

Only fair

I worked through the first lockdown and then lost my job. If the govt wants us to stay home, they can pay me to do it now

It's confusing

But we're all in this together. Now is not the time for knee-jerk reactions. Ottawa has your back, so don't worry. We're working on a Great Reset where nobody will own anything and we will be blissfully happy about it. You'll see it soon enough. Hang in there.
