Finally accepting I may have depression

This COVID thing has really gotten to me lately. I’m grateful I still have a job but it’s stressful and I have no real break from it. After work I come straight home and do nothing but watch TV. I barely see the few friends I have anymore because of the restrictions. I’m also single for the foreseeable future because of COVID. I’m 29 (female) and I just can’t seem to find a light at the end of the tunnel anymore. I have no real joy or excitement in my life but I know I have so much to be grateful for - I have a job, I’m not struggling to pay rent, and don’t know of anyone (even a friend of a friend) who got COVID. I’ve never felt so low before and I’m really struggling to lift myself out of this.

Bring on the suicide booths.

Hey :) You’re definitely not alone in this, many people are in the same situation.
Perhaps focus on what makes you happy or take on a hobby that interests you.

you are a baby!! You have soooooo much time to do so many things, including finding that special someone. I think this depression stems from some idea that you should achieve x, y and z by a certain age. We’re all getting older and we all want to achieve things and part of the Covid frustration is feeling like time is slipping away and we are all literally just hunkered down inside and we could be actually doing things!! But tons of people are single in their 30’s, 40’s and beyond. You could meet the “one” any time. Tons of people are divorced. My point is, try to just embrace wherever you’re at without judging your situation or yourself. Give yourself permission to watch tv after work if that is what you feel like doing. The truth is you don’t need to be doing anything right now and yes, tons of people have it way worse than you!

There’s no need nor should you feel guilty for how you are feeling. Please consider talking to someone about this.

It resonates with me. I'm in the same boat. I think a lot of single people are. I would try to Zoom/Skype and be social with people as much as possible. My friends hardly want to, but I want to... Don't forget to look up your old high school friends. We just did and it felt great to talk to the old gang :) Even online!

Hey OP

You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders and what you’re feeling is natural. I am feeling much the same way right now, particularly about needing a break and not being able to take one.

While gratitude is important, I think it’s equally important to feel authentically in order to get to the root of what’s bothering us so that we can move toward a fulfilling life.

So, if you’re grateful to have a job but not grateful about the work itself, that’s okay! Let yourself feel all the emotions (not just the positive ones) and let that be the map that guides your soul forward.

So don't be too hard on yourself. And don't pay attention if someone reminds you that others have it worse. That's not helpful advice. It just erases your feelings. There will always be people who have it much better or much worse, mute point.

You'll be fine

We are all living in ridiculously strange times. There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Indulge yourself in a hobby or activity you've been putting off and keep smiling. We will truly get through this. Peace and love to you! =)

Sorry you're feeling like this, OP. You're feelings are real, and this is a tough time to be dealing with depression. It's even tougher considering the world is full of people who lack basic empathy (see: above responses).

Like a previous commenter said, give yourself permission to watch TV. Even if it's passive dopamine release, it still provides you with some sort of happiness. It's all about the little things right now for you. Does TV bring you joy? Watch it. Does getting out of bed just to brush your teeth the most you can do today? That's okay. As *someone* once said, "anything worth doing is worth doing poorly".

Little things, my friend. Dont let anyone tell you that you SHOULD be happy just cause someone else has it worse. Someone will ALWAYS have it worse, and that shouldn't invalidate your feelings.
