I’ve been asking

myself a lot lately, “what is the meaning of all this?” What is the whole point of life and all the crazy things we go through, all the ups and terrible downs? I don’t know why, I guess the pandemic, the Trump thing, and world issues lately have switched me into full existential crisis. I wish we had the ability to go back in time with things we’ve learned and change certain things. Since we can’t do that, the idea of reincarnation makes the most sense to me.

I had a whole plan to get reincarnated as her lipstick until everyone pointed out exactly what that would mean.
I think time travel is still the best option.

There is no point

It is what it is. What's important is to keep a sense of perspective and keep moving forward, trying to make things better. Nothing was ever achieved by hiding away and wishing things were different. These aren't the worst of times, not by a long way. We all need to get a grip.

... there is no point. If you're on the right track you have kids, fun experiences, etc. If not, you either get welfare, or you get to support a social order where rich people who work for Government or big corporations get to have kids, fun experiences, etc. At the end of the day, it doesn't mean anything naturally, meaning is artificial. Things are natural, values are artifice.

I have two suggestions.
Read Schopenhauer as 'self-help'.
And/or buy a musical instrument and do absolutely nothing but scales over and over and over again. It is probably no accident that Schopenhauer makes special case for music as king amongst the arts.
It is, you know.
The way it's working out for me is that the relentless practice of scales mirrors the tedium of life; it seems pointless, but once you master that tedium and perform it without thought, you can surprise yourself by crafting something sweet. It's funny, because all that awareness that occupies you when you're learning becomes something you disappear into - again, a lot like living your life.
Or, to paraphrase, "Music's what happens when you're busy playing scales."
You just have to accept you're going somewhere, whether you know it or not.
And mistakes - constant mistakes - are part of the process... but you do get better.
And then you die.

Lots of atheists!! Come on, this is all not meaningless. That is just a cop-out by people who don’t like to think too deeply...religious dogma is exaggerated for sure, but to say that it’s all meaningless I do not accept for one moment.

The meaning of your life is what you make it.

In the grand scheme of things an individual's life is no more or less important than that of an ant, or a blade of grass. Choose a worthy purpose and your life will have meaning to you and those around you.

Do we? Or is what they call 'death' actually waking up from this Planet Earth dream time? ........... however, i very much do like your Schopenhauer as 'self-help' teachings ........... music is the universal rhythms ......... play on :-)

Hello, cynics.

I'm with you. I believe in reincarnation, too - and to believe in that I feel like you have to believe there's some kind of purpose to living more than one life. Which isn't really that cynical, unless you just think of it as endless punishment or something. It must be to learn and experience as much as possible, whatever that may be for you in this life, and the next, and the next. If you're not growing as a person, I can imagine it would feel endless.

I think we have to live more than one life not only to learn more, but it’s also because there are so many random variables (other people, circumstances, etc.) that can sort of interrupt our progress or ‘mission’ - sometimes these interruptions are for you to learn something you maybe missed, but since everything is interconnected sometimes we can get caught up in things that aren’t really for us but could be more to help others in their progress. Thus we all sort of evolve together but at different rates. Also sometimes we learn the most from observing others. Then we might reincarnate in other galaxies, on other planets. It all takes a long time.
