OCD Selective Hearing

I tend to obsess.
Like REALLY obsess.
When I know it's getting bad and there's no way it's going to be requited I start tuning out every word the person says. No matter what they mention I will freaking grasp onto that word so I have to actually not hear it. They like a certain author? Oh, well suddenly I'm reading every book they ever wrote. They like a certain type of perfume? Why am I buying women's perfume?? Obviously it's extremely unhealthy and unfortunately being super rude and ignoring them is the only way I can exist semi-normally. Once while I was doing a public presentation my dream person asked me a question and all I could do is stare blankly because I was doing everything I could to not hear anything. Anyway, I survived.

You’ve identified that you have a problem. Now that you’ve done that, the next step is to seek help for it. If you choose not to, then you’re just giving yourself permission to carry on with a very unhealthy behaviour. I wish you luck and courage in coping with this challenge.

You don't want to hear it, so you block it out. This can become functional deafness (google it). So, on one level, you are trying to assert your own opinions and personality by not hearing what others say, but conversely you don't have the confidence to follow through, so you end up mimicking them. If you stop idealising other people (thinking of them as "dream" people is perpetuating this) and focus on your own strengths and abilities, you will hopefully develop the confidence to stop obsessing about others and copying them. Not saying this is easy, however. Best of luck.
S'not that bad

You probably won't believe this but you sound like you actually have some kind of deep rooted talent. History is full of men who had the ability to focus their attention to an extraordinary degree.
The problem you have now is that you will have to figure out exactly what that talent is.
