Numbers

Initially I thought BC’s daily Covid numbers were high ie. approx 700 new cases daily and not really decreasing by much despite mostly everyone following restrictions. I then looked into comparable population sizes like the state of Oregon and Tennessee. Oregon has twice the daily cases with 1 million fewer residents, and Tennessee is around 9000 new daily cases. So, BC, we’re doing really well in terms of keeping infections low. Thank you all for your sacrifices and wearing your mask and reducing your social contacts. It’s been tough and it sucks, this loneliness. But we do not have insane community spread like some US states. Thank you for taking Covid seriously. Let’s skip this holiday season to be alive for the next one.

Singapore has 5.6 million people crammed into an area 1/4 the size of the greater Vancouver area.
0 local cases per day for around a month I think.

That their hospitals get a ton of extra money for every covid case they claim, and much more for hooking anyone up to a ventilator for even a short time.
It's a system that's ripe to take advantage of for extra profits...

Only 129 dead in Hong Kong, 60 dead in Thailand, 25 dead in New Zealand, 7 dead in Taiwan, zero deaths in Laos. Canada has been a bit of a disappointment considering how smug many Canadians can be.

If you have to use the shitshow that's the US handling of the Covid pandemic to make you feel better about how we're handling it, then, no, we're not doing a good job.

There's zero reason beyond selfishness, carelessness, and stupidity as to why we have 700 cases per day right now. Well, shitty gov't handling and not ramping up testing capacity so people can regularly monitor themselves are a big part of it too.

So, yeah, it's a giant costly clusterfuck, just not as big of one as the worst place in the world for Covid, Yay.

Places other than vancouver are exponentially worse. Stay safe there, there's still a chance of keeping it under control.
People will always blame dr. Bonnie because she is a woman but other governments are mishandling it way worse and they are more implicit than their spokesperson.

You're absolutely correct that Asia has handled this far better, but Laos as an example? They simply don't have the capability to accurately trace. There are many reasons why 3rd world nations like Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam have low numbers...

Just wanted to make sure it's clear that I'm not critisizing any of our front-line healthcare workers at all. You, and all the others in jobs whose primary function is dealing with people, who are responsible in your personal lives.

Hella thanks.

I'm trying to tip the hell out of any CSR people I interact with right now, especially those in lower base wage jobs. With what's going on, you guys deserve danger pay.
