Facing it

I used to be a runner. Until two years ago when I hit my head on a curb on a bike. I've gotten better slowly and have recently started running. I got out today for a short jog to enjoy the gorgeous weather. Due to unemployment I wore my old runners, leggings and an old pink American apparel nylon rain coat. After picking a part of a pipe I needed from Canadian tire I logged slowly towards Cambie bridge. A guy looked me up and down, with a snooty look on his face and words spat out his mouth. Slow down!. In front of my masked face. I couldn't help but take it personally as he looked decently dressed and had to take a good look at my outfit before spewing those words unmasked into my face. It was disheartening since it's been hard getting out. I'm quite large so I could barely do more than a jog. Perhaps he had meant I took up so much space I should be walking... I just can not think but two years ago, he would have let it slide.

I have no idea what he did or what you did. Can you try again?

Not wrong

Seems to be less and less tolerance for difference here, combined with everyone being on edge. Lots of judging happening.

I have lifelong heath issues currently and I also try to keep fit and can unequivocally state that people can be assholes.

The prat who made a weird comment is probably so far up his own ass on antidepressants that his insults don't even make sense.

Listen, PLEASE.
Do not care about the runner just put one foot in front of the other.
You deserve all the space you need.
Fuck them.

Don't Worry

About what some idiot thinks. I could take a close look into his life and pick him to pieces.
You're out there trying to get better from your accident, what anyone else thinks of of no importance.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

And fuck that narcissist. You're doing as well as you can be, good for you! Seriously, who has time or energy to spew hate at random strangers?? No matter what brand of fancy athletic gear he's wearing, he's ugly inside.

I know it takes courage to take yourself out for a jog! And so many others feel the same way, I sure hope you keep going!

That’s funny. My partner thinks it’s the joggers who are like terrorists. Personally, I’ve been a runner, a pedestrian, a cyclist, and a driver. A lot of all of the above in fact. My take on it is that it doesn’t make any difference what your mode of transportation is. A whole lot of people nowadays are entitled jerks who show zero consideration for anyone but themselves. So please people, just pay attention to your OWN behaviour and be considerate! If we all did that it would sure make the world a lot easier to get around in.

Ignore the idiot

I'm in the same boat. Used to be thin, cute and healthy. Got injured and it all went to pot. I now face regular insults, dirty looks, even shoving. Life on the other side really sucks. But not everyone's an asshole and those that are will hopefully get to experience some adversity themselves, so they can become better humans. In the meantime, know that you're not alone. We get it.
