complain that Canada was sooo boring and stale. After recent world events: thank you Canada for being so boring! Never change!

The US has managed to coercively activate all the vileness that Canada possesses but pretends it doesn’t. We’re not so different; we’re just in denial.

Well you are being wilfully ignorant then. There's plenty of recent and historical events that you're privileged enough not to have to "deal with" in Canada. Indigenous communities still don't have access to clean water, opioid crisis, poverty, disabled people have had no support from fed govt during pandemic, policing harasses/murders marginalized communities without impunity. I guess that's boring to you?

Canada IS boring as fuck and it’s painful. At least Americans get up and fight for what they believe in even if they’re a horde of racist bigots. I have no respect for that culture but what I do respect is getting off your ass and making change happen. I guess we’re all stoned here.

America is off the rails, but the complacency and dullness of Canada is grotesque.

While we have a percentage of Q-nutters, we're nowhere nearly like our insane neighbours. Thank God for that! Well, except Alberta, but they have a higher concentration and, thanks to oil and the conservatives, more of an American presence as they try to make it more like the US there (destroying health care, education and social safety nets while fueling misinformation and bad covid management). Covid should thin the herd wherever the stench of similar ignorance resides.

You both nailed it! Totally grotesquely complacent in Canada. And do you ever get the impression that a lot of people here feel very threatened by those who excel at something or who try to change things? Even if it’s in a truly positive way? It seems like they love to cut down the tall poppies in Canada...are we all just supposed to be the same dull, complacent, stoned people so no one gets threatened or mad? I don’t understand it.
