I walked past a care home the other day and saw an elderly man sitting in the window. I can't imagine how hard it would be living out your days in a facility like that pre covid but now with a 'no visitors' rule, it would be terribly lonely. I waved at him and he waved back. I hope that made his day. It sure made mine.

What a rotten stinking civilization. Taking its aged then dumping them into institutionalized existence for the last few years of their lives.

It's not much different from prison.

Me too

I used to walk by one of those places every day (even before this) and think "this will be me some day" - except I won't be able to afford to be in one.

Aging sick parents... only child. I don’t have the means or the money to take care of them. What am I supposed to do? The homes have to be better run I agree. But don’t be so judgemental. My later years have been taking care of my parents with no life of my own.

You are good
That's plain to see
When I get old
Will you wave at me?

Good reminder

Walking in my hood, I occasionally see lone people on their balconies looking a bit forlorn. A good reminder that I should just wave and smile to lift their spirits even temporarily.

Your comment is so typical. So easy to say how awful people are when you have no idea why they had to make that decision. Surprisingly, not everyone can afford to hire the type of medical staff that are often needed for elderly people in poor health. Some people have to work themselves. Some people have no room to take in elderly parents or their parents also live in small places. Some people have no help from other siblings. Some people had abusive parents and may be estranged from them. Some people also work full time and have their own children to look after too. This judgemental and pious “I would never” type of comment just makes my blood boil. Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes or keep your mouth shut.
