The only places that make sense to me right now are walking trails in the trees. The simplicity of bird song and rain drops hitting leaves. Nature is where I can recover. For when I go back indoors, Zoom meeting and meetups are all performative, people talk about things I have a hard time wrapping my head around like wanting to travel and self development, and they are just a click away from Covid stats like 1 person dying every 33 seconds in California. I am way happier with the dirt and rocks and rain. Otherwise the cognitive dissonance gives me headaches.

You just hit on something here, my friend. Thank you for expressing it like that.

Those other people

They're probably trying to focus on something, anything else, because thinking about covid all the time is demoralizing and depressing. Just like you are switching your brain to something different by being in nature. Different strokes for different folks. We're all struggling.

Miss the quiet of just nature sounds
the way the woods smell, so fresh and clean. Earthy
So Peaceful

Soil, not dirt.

Rocks, rain and soil, my friend. Big distinction. As a former soils prof used to say, "the only dirt is between your ears." She's a bit of a legend amongst soil junkies.

Nature has always been my place. From as long as I can remember, I’ve gone to the forest or the ocean. Thankfully I’ve alway lived beside both so it’s been easy to escape to. Unfortunately now, everyone else has discovered the joy, so finding any place to go that isn’t completely overrun with thousands of other people is almost impossible around here. Before you know it, the forest and beaches will be destroyed by overuse.

Large trees tend to melt my problems away for a few moments....almost instantly.
