What (who) I wanted most in life didn't work out. I lived in hope for a long time. I thought my feelings would fade or miraculously the relationship would happen. Instead, my passion dried up and disappeared. I have no excitement for anything. Socializing, food, travel (not that I can), art, reading, music. I pet street cats now. They like me and trust me and that's nice but I don't think it's enough.

Today, the playing field has been leveled. Decide to become who you want to be and follow this opportunity. Get out of your own way.

i feel the exact same thing, as of yesterday. or it's been happening for a long time. i just kept being the one to initiate everything. they bailed on me twice before christmas and never asked me out since. they're also talking to other women. which i know, it's fine, but i caught fucking feelings man. i'm an idiot and i finally told them i need space and i get the feeling that's the last time we'll talk for good.

You're going through a difficult season. And I'm sure you have every right to feel sad, enervated, disillusioned. But at some point you need to ask yourself: how long will this difficult season last? Will it last for years? Decades? The rest of your life? Because that happens to some people. They nurse their broken hearts because maybe they were abused, maybe they were neglected, maybe they trusted the wrong people, and they're entitled to be devastated and heartbroken. If you want to live this way, in this sad fog, that's completely your choice. But you can choose walk away from the fog and toward better days. I hope you opt for that. And keep being a friend to cats, because cats are awesome people.

Here's a little something I worked out a few years back that's been useful to me: "All suffering is in the difference between the world as you believe it to be and the world as it is."
This is especially true when I discover I've run out of Dijon and have already prepared my smokies with cheese and sauerkraut.
Your usage may differ.

The other one I read recently is (Persian or Jewish, I think) is a king once asked for most *useful* advice in all circumstances and it was: "This too shall pass."

Trust me on this - it works for everything.

“If you want to live this way, in this sad fog, that's completely your choice.”

Depression is not that simple. Often you have to let it run its course and let it tell you what it needs to tell you. That takes time (years and decades are not unreasonable) and a willingness to stare into the abyss.

PSA to all: Allow people to work through their own stuff in their own time.
