Bus fuss

I never sit in the rear-facing seats on the bus anymore because more and more people are putting their dirty shoes on the seats. I get that public places are "dirty", and Sheldon Cooper's "bus pants" are definitely a thing, but I don't know when (younger) people completely lost respect for public places. Some of these people are even in their 30's. I'm in my 40's and everybody in my "generation" got smacked a new one by our parents or any elders nearby if we ever dared put our feet on the seat. Yesterday I saw a high schooler completely splayed out across the back row of bus seats. I saw where the shoes were, so I guess I won't be sitting in the back row anymore either.

Of those rear-facing seats on the #22, etc. It’s a weird design for all the reasons you say, as well as the intimate awkwardness of facing the other people in the cubby and the motion sickness potential.

And the manspreading wingspan is guaranteed to be strong in the middle seat of the back row.

As kids we called the black goo on the schoolbus floor "bus sludge"- it left permanent black stains on your clothes so you made a point of not making any contact with it if possible....

In this current age have absolutely zero class - they don't see themselves anymore they just feed off their hand held devices, that is their life they are reflecting from. They actually deserve to be deleted to renew civilization.

I'll be 66 years old soon and I used to put my feet on bus seats all the time when I was in my teens and early 20s.

What a joke. As if the world was some kind of paradise before.

It's not just young people, plenty of jerks in their 30s 40s and beyond. I agree it's disgusting as there is almost always dog shit on people's shoes which can lead to parasites absorbed through the skin. However the dirtiest seats are the sideways facing ones right in front of the 2 back corner seats. What is even more disgusting is people putting their feet up when people are sitting there, right against their pants. Total lack of respect. Whenever I see this, I trip the person on their way out.

It is an idiotic design feature, and not possible to sit across from another person without your knees being jammed together.
The new buses are terrible in many aspects. If you sit in the back corner, there is an awkward bulge at the shoulder level that forces you to sit crooked. Some sideways seats are similar in that the forward facing seats lean back into their space so it's more like half a seat. Worst of all us the windows not opening; apparently canned air is healthier.
There's no point complaining, however, because if transit planners actually cared about people's needs, why would they run a subway to Arbutus?

Try Japan where they use lots of common sense.

Did you say anything??? If I want to sit and there's someone spreading out I ask"Did you pay for two seats??? Canadians are so complacent about speaking out in the face of ill manners.Riding transit sucks enough as it is without having to endure rude passengers.I'm not afraid to speak up and if they don't like it,too bad,I paid for the ride.
