Happy Valentine’s

This is my fifth consecutive year being single on Valentine’s Day, and my annual tradition until this point has been to “check up” on exes and former flames on social media, get drunk and feel sorry for myself, while hoping that someone will “surprise me”. Well, this year I decided to surprise myself by doing something differently, and making a big list of things to be grateful for instead. And it’s truly done wonders today. I have no wish to “check up” on anyone, self-abuse under the guise of self-care, and I don’t feel sad at all. Wishing everyone a great day, whether single or coupled!

Good for you. It's hard to break that cycle. I'm newly single and it's really tempting to ex-creep, but the list of pros for being single vs. being in not great relationships is way longer. I'm looking forward to spending the next 5 Valentine's days at least as a single but happily not celibate person, not interested at all in what my exes are doing. It's such a weightless, free feeling. Happy day!

The old practice sounds like torture, this is a change for the better.

Good for you! This is a fantastic realization. This obsession of going back and forth/being friends with/creeping exes is something I will never understand. You are on the right track.

I don't get this attitude. It means you're depending on Government for everything a partner used to do in history, e.g. protection, nursing care, etc. etc. Seems like the ultimate fascist disposition, using people like you're an HR dept looking for the "right fit" terminating after 2 months so yo don't have to pay benefits, etc.

Our whole world is basically set up for serial monogamists to abuse people.
