History repeats itself

When my dad hit his late 40s, the job losses began. He never worked a permanent full time job after that. Fast forward to now. Even before Covid struck, my late 40s/early 50s friends started to lose their jobs. Some of them have now 2-4 year unemployment gaps and they’re unlikely to find anything during the pandemic. It’s a frightening sight, seeing one living a stable and good life, and the fall into poverty, stress and shame.

Two and a half years ago, hurt on the job and not my fault.
Off of work for 7 months, then discharged by Worksafe despite being unable to work full time. Worked very part time 2019,, and laid off due to Covid. Not eligible for anything.
Zero replies to hundreds of applications even after modifying them to suit opportunities.
Four months of reserve money left.

It's the sad function of a declining civilization denigrating the societal group most responsible for that civilization's earlier success - meanwhile worthless groups are praised, promoted etc to cover up the original crime.

The world is in a state of change where everything is uncertain.
Its kinda their plan.
Divide and conquer !
Fear breeds obedience does it not.
Control feeds the beast.
Lack of money is devastating our very existence now, we all like to eat and have a warm safe place to lay our heads at night.
It should be a right not a privilege.
Cost of living now is outrageous for most people in the world now.
1% of the population is wealthy ,what about the rest ?
Are they less worthy cause they are poor.
What a world we live in !

I am in my 50's and lost a good job to the pandemic.I have been looking for work but it's very depressing and am facing ageism in the workforce.I'm not old enough to retire but many places see me as too old to take on when they could hire someone much younger.I'm feeling scared about my future and job prospects.I was in a good place with my former job and now face a very uncertain future. This pandemic will have not only long lasting psychological effects, but economic ones as well.I'm trying to stay hopeful but the job situation is bleak.

Yes! This happens all the time, and believe me when I tell you that ageism is a major reality. Young people have no idea how incredibly hard it is for an older person to find a decent job. I’ve been accused of just not being “positive” enough when I’ve tried to explain the reality to young people. When you’ve been a professional, independent person for most of your life and suddenly find yourself unemployed (in my case due to disability), it’s a terrible blow when you lose everything that you’ve worked so hard for. It’s embarrassing and humiliating. I’m in my mid - sixties and I’m scared that no one will ever hire me again, and I’m going to be on the street. Try finding a job as a disabled senior in a pandemic!

We learn from history that we do not learn from history.

Sometimes I feel COVID is just a game of coodies on the playground. Only these are adults.

When I was in my 30s and she was in her 50s. Nice "safe" unionized government job. Believe me, if they want rid of you, they'll find a way. Scared the crap out of me, luckily. From that point, I lived very frugally and saved as much as possible. It was lucky because I got sick and had to go on disability, but I've survived. No doubt someone will find a way to steal my savings though. I won't even be surprised when it happens...

And shopping for a cheap cargo van to slowly fix up so I at least have some sort of roof over my head.
