Shopping for groceries

Recently I tried out the grocery delivery man. I really don't like going to grocery stores but I do it anyway. This time I thought I'd give it a chance and they failed me. I was given grocery items that had half their life already gone. I was charged extra for someone to actually pick my food on top of the delivery charge. Convenient? Maybe. But I cannot trust that they will get me what I want and I will not settle for anything less. I will continue to go to the grocery stores

The north American failings of their versions of these services doesn't mean the services can't work. My wife and I happily get grocery delivery here on Expat Island weekly and it's always on time, mistake free and with free delivery.

I've never used the self-checkout so much my whole life!

I’ve tried it too, more than once. I’ve found the websites to be incredibly annoying to navigate (going back and forth endlessly trying to do a basic shop), and many times they don’t even have the stuff I want. The individualized specifics make it even more difficult. I tried to buy frozen seafood, and because I neglected to say (on that one item) that I wouldn’t accept a substitution, I got farmed fish, which I never, ever buy. I found that trying to put together a regular shopping list took me much longer online than it would take me to just show up in person and do it myself. Not worth the hassle.

... pay with a credit card and charge back if it is not right, then give the company another chance, if they fuck up, charge back again and use a different company.

There are others. I had a great one in Vancouver a few years ago, and that one is still going. Best food ever!

Well, you know the old saying, "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself".

@@Expat Island THANK-YOU!

Know what "ex-pat" really means? It means immigrant, but to someone too latently white supremacist to imagine that word could fit them.

... Stocking shelves at a big name local grist store. I see the pickers who shop for the people who want their groceries delivered. These are kids in their first ever job, they have no clue what they are doing. If they can't see the product they are looking for at the very first glance, they mark it as unavailable and go back to their smart phone chatting while moving to the next section. They are completely uninterested in doing good by the customer, they are not held accountable for picking errors or omissions, and they never check the expiry dates. And people pay extra for this 'service'.... SMH.
